A Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia clash is finally on the cards. Two-weight champion, Haney has assented for the fight to take place after promoter, Eddie Hearn revealed that negotiations for the fight had begun and details of it were being discussed.
Haney emerged as the super lightweight champion after he vacated his lightweight titles to fight Regis Progais in early December. In the wake of this victory, he instigated Gervonta Davis for a clash. Initially, ‘Tank’ showed interest in the offer. However, later, per Hearn, the fighter did not seem keen to fight ‘The Dream.’ With chances of a Tank fight being slim, the Matchroom head pursued a Garcia fight. Now, Garcia’s side, vocalized by his promoter Oscar De La Hoya too has doubled down to make the fight happen.

Devin Haney signs off the year accepting the Garcia fight
After claiming that his 25-year-old fighter, Ry would beat Haney “hands down” in an earlier X post, De La Hoya wrote to Haney today. While wishing him the holidays, he sought the final nod from the “best 140 pounder in the world” for a Garcia fight. A fight that he thinks should break PPV records. In response, Haney posted, “Let’s do it brother.. Happy Holidays to you & yours.”

A few days ago, while talks of a Haney vs. Garcia fight were picking momentum, ‘Golden Boy’ asked his followers to choose between Haney and Shakur Stevenson as ‘KingRy’s’ next opponent. About 60% asked for Haney. So, that’s what the promoter took as his command. Despite his ongoing legal tussle with Ry, the promoter has been instrumental in getting notable opponents for the fighter. Early December, Ry redeemed himself from the scathing Gervonta loss that he encountered in April. He defeated Oscar Duarte via an 8th-round knockout.
De La Hoya is relentless when it comes to bringing Ry the best fights possible. Hearn too has been unwavering in sorting Haney with elite fights. With both these promoters joining hands, it seems like Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia is soon to be a reality.
Eddie Hearn details out the Ry fight
In a conversation with Ariel Helwani, Nevada-based Haney confirmed that Matchroom would be a part of the Ryan Garcia fight if it were to happen. Later, Hearn put his fighter’s words into action. The English promoter jotted down to Boxing Social the efforts he and others. including Golden Boy have taken in getting the “mega fight” rolling. He explained, “I’ve spoken to [Bill and Devin Haney] and we want to explore the Ryan Garcia fight. Myself, Oscar [De La Hoya], Eric Gomes, are speaking to DAZN, and we will present to Devin and Bill an offer to fight Ryan Garcia. As Golden Boy will with Ryan.

Reportedly, Haney is targeting a March or April return to the ring. Going by what Hearn suggests, the return is mostly against Ry. The promoter continued, “The talks are very amicable. I believe them, that they want to make the fight. The numbers have got to make sense for everybody, but I think it’s a mega-fight.”
