Devin Haney will be back in the ring on November 22. On the Night of the Champions, he will face the WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. But it seems eagerness got the better of Haney, forcing him into an early confrontation. Only, instead of the ring, it might take place in the court of law. A recent report suggests the former undisputed lightweight champion has filed a case against broadcasting giant DAZN. His complaint: the world’s largest sports streaming platform has failed to remove the video of last year’s fight against Ryan Garcia.

The bout against Garcia ended ignobly. On fight night, Haney lost via majority decision. But the result was soon overturned to a no-contest after reports emerged that Ryan Garcia had failed doping tests. Garcia subsequently received a one-year suspension alongside financial penalties. But Devin Haney wasn’t done. He later filed a lawsuit against Garcia for ‘battery, fraud, and breach of contract.’ As the new year began, talks of a rematch lingered, but both fighters eventually moved onto different trajectories.

Devin Haney to turn up the heat on DAZN
Teasing fans and raising the question of whether Haney should ‘move on and own the loss,’ FTTV Boxing posted on Instagram: “🚨 BREAKING: Devin Haney is taking legal action against DAZN and other platforms for refusing to remove his fight with Ryan Garcia… Should Haney keep fighting this… or move on and own the loss?” The source they suggested for the report was Babalabrute-boxing. However, the Haneys themselves haven’t confirmed anything on their part yet.

According to the original post, showing the footage of the Garcia fight is misleading since the sanctioning bodies have since turned the result to a no-contest. The fallout from last April’s bout was largely Garcia’s undoing. But Haney became a constant target of jibes and taunts. Reportedly, his reputation suffered significant damage.

The constant circulation of footage showing him suffering three knockdowns may not work out well for the 26-year-old. Unlike Garcia, whose comeback ended with a loss, Haney registered a decisive victory and is now looking forward to another title win.

A new script before the title chase?
Haney faced a lot of scrutiny when he first took legal action against Garcia. To many, the gloves should settle the grouse in the ring, not the court. Calling it an “act of desperation,” Gervonta Davis’ longtime trainer, Calvin Ford, said at the time, “He (Haney) got paid for Garcia being overweight, and Garcia got suspended, so he (Ryan) has already been found guilty.”
More importantly, with just a month to go before the Norman Jr. fight, many followers are now watching Haney’s preparations with a fresh perspective.

A win over a powerful champion like Brian Norman Jr. could put Devin Haney’s career back on track. Some might see his latest legal move as a distraction. Considering it’s been over a year since the Garcia fight, others may wonder: what harm could a few lingering video clips do for a bout most fans have already moved on from?
What makes the situation even more intriguing is that recent social media posts showed Haney and Garcia catching up on friendly terms. Garcia even teased a possible rematch date!
Fans should stay tuned as more developments emerge.
