Devin Haney finally managed to turn all the doubts surrounding his ability as a former undisputed champion with his decisive victory over Regis Prograis. Since then he has been on the radar of a lot of boxers including Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis. So how come he still hasn’t had a fight made even now?

Interestingly last year, Haney and Davis appeared to be at each other’s throats. Both sides were having a back-and-forth and for a while, it looked like they would end up fighting one another. However, that didn’t happen and both Davis and Haney are without any opponent right now. But the rivalry between the two has reignited as Haney took the time to set the record straight about the reason for the fight falling apart.

Recently Kenny Ellis and Coach Calvin Ford appeared on The Rize Podcast. During the interview, they discussed how Haney apparently overestimated himself and asked for a bigger piece of the pie. Ellis argued, “You can’t have the tickets selling at one price and then drop them below half price the closest you get to the fight.”

Ellis’s sentiments were echoed by Calvin Ford, Tank’s trainer, who questioned the financial aspect of Haney’s recent fight against Prograis. Ford mentioned, “I don’t know the numbers when they sit down and look at his [Haney] last fight, and asked the questions that we asked at the table.”

Kelvin Ford pointed out, “Devin comes in demanding 50/50, 60/40, that’s what stops the fight.. we see what you’re really worth”. As the video surfaced on social media the enthusiast wrote, “This is why Haney ran to Saudi, it’s all his fault he outpricing.” Haney shared his dissatisfaction towards Team Davis. He wrote, “I said I would take the same deal as Ryan.. yall over there scared to death!”. Haney appears dissatisfied over the remarks. In the meantime, it appears his fight against Garcia is once again picking up pace.

IBO champion on Ryan Garcia’s indecisiveness

The recent flip-flopping in Ryan Garcia’s decision to face Devin Haney has raised eyebrows in the boxing world. The IBO lightweight champion, George Kambosas Jr., expressed his view on the situation, emphasizing Garcia’s apparent confusion.

After Haney’s impressive victory over Prograis in December, Garcia initially expressed interest in a showdown. However, he later shifted focus to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, only to backtrack and reopen discussions with Haney’s team.

Kambosas Jr., who faced Haney in 2022, acknowledged the potential excitement of a Garcia-Haney clash but couldn’t help but comment on Garcia’s wavering decisions. In his words, “Ryan is a good kid; I like Ryan. I’ve got a lot of respect for Ryan, I feel that he’s just a little bit confused. That’s not taking a shot at him… Sometimes he gets confused with things and doesn’t know what way to go.”

In my heart, 'The Rumble in the Jungle' still remains to be the pinnacle of sporting history. Over the years, my fervor for boxing remained intact, although life's commitments sometimes deviated me from being a hardcore fan of the sport.
