25-year-old Devin Haney became the WBC light welterweight champion last year after defeating Regis Prograis. On April 20, he will be defending the title from Ryan Garcia. The duo will fight at New York’s Barclays Center on April 20. ‘The Dream’ thanked the WBC family for their kind words during this most difficult time.

Devin Haney: Honoring the Legacy of a Beloved Grandmother

Early in the morning today, through his X/Twitter account, Devin Haney shared a heartfelt message. He informed him that his grandma, Renee Jannah, was no more. Praying to Allah to grant her eternal peace and comfort in his presence, he shared how she had lovingly brought up capable sons and grandsons. They were all going to miss her a lot.

“May Allah grant my Grandma Renee Jannah.. she raised strong son’s & grandsons; we will forever miss you,” said Devin Haney. Soon, many followers joined, expressing their condolences and support.

A few hours later, the WBC president messaged, “On behalf of all the members of the WBC family, I wish to express our deepest condolences to William Haney and our champion Devin and pray for eternal rest of Renee Jannah, mother and grandmother of this united and beautiful family, @Realdevinhaney @WBCBoxing.” Expressing his gratitude, Devin Haney replied back about how much their words meant to him and his family. 

His father, Bill Haney, messaged through his Instagram account, “Alahamdulillah. My Mom taught us soooo much, and she will be missed by me for the rest of my life. From Allah she came, and to Allah she will return. Inshallah. AllahuAkbar. #TeamHaney.”
