With the Canelo-Crawford showdown over, the boxing world’s sights are now set on the November 22 Riyadh card. Headlined by David Benavidez and Anthony Yarde, the show reportedly has four world titles on the line. Among the matches, one fans keenly look forward to is the welterweight scrap between Brian Norman Jr. and Devin Haney. Verbal exchanges between the two, now extended by their fathers, have gone viral. But amid the build-up to watch two of the most exciting names in the ring, a sideline report caught the attention of a few.

It concerned Devin Haney. The former undisputed champion has reportedly filed a case against his ex-fiancée. The case, involving $350,000 worth of gifts, has now become a talking point across some corners. Invariably, it freshened up memories of Haney’s lawsuit against Ryan Garcia. Now, outside the ring, fighters often go through such ordeals. But it goes without saying – the situation often leaves them vulnerable to jibes. What’s concerning is that sometimes followers step out of line.

Devin Haney gains an unlikely ally
So more often than not, the person in question jumps to defend himself. In his absence, friends and well-wishers line up. Still, even in their dreams, no one would imagine an archrival stepping in to save the day. That’s why what happened in Haney’s case left many intrigued. A fresh incident saw Gervonta Davis jumping to Haney’s defense! “Stay out of fighters’ personal life. Enjoy boxing...” he told a user who went off script.

Restricted to the X world, the instance saw a user sharing footage of Adrien Broner’s now infamous interview. Following his unsavory remarks, Cam’ron told him to leave. Before that happened, Broner spoke about Gervonta Davis. He recalled how the lightweight champion helped him on occasions. But instead of talking about Davis’ caring nature, the user pointed out Devin Haney’s latest lawsuit. “But Devin Haney is suing his baby mama for 350k and all the stuff he gave her smh.”
It remains one of modern boxing’s biggest puzzles. Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney were contemporaries at 135 pounds for years. Yet, despite the proximity, a clash between the two remained elusive. A leaked, age-old clip of ‘Tank’ and Haney sparring defined their rivalry.
Today, as we speak, ‘Tank’ holds a belt at lightweight, while Haney, after climbing up a division, now awaits the square-up against Brian Norman Jr. Still, the rivalry continued, at least on the sidelines.

Whenever the opportunity presented itself, Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney never shied from taking potshots at each other. Months ago, during an interview with Cigar Talk‘s Naji Chill, Haney recalled how, unlike many other fighters, ‘Tank’ gets irritated whenever a comparison unfolds. Haney said, “He gets mad when, like, somebody mentions his name or some sh*t like that. That’s, like, that’s some female sh*t to me, like, I don’t like it.”

But then there’s another side to the story. Like how Gervonta Davis drew a line, Haney also set the boundaries to which he would criticize his rivals. Earlier this year, when a reporter baited him with reports about Gervonta Davis’ matchup against Lamont Roach, Haney refused to make any remarks.

With ‘Tank’ preparing for an exhibition against Jake Paul and hinting at retirement, and Haney forging a new path in higher divisions, the chances of them meeting now seem slim. Still, signs of their long-standing rivalry thawing will surely please some fans.
What do you have to say? Do you want ‘Tank’ and Haney for a big showdown, or is it too late?
