Most boxers know how to hit. But it takes a good boxer to understand what it takes to receive a hit. In his thirty-one outings, Devin Haney has yet to suffer a defeat. But it hadn’t been smooth sailing for the young 25-year-old world champion. He saw through some tough deals to reach the place where he stands today. Probably, that could be the reason why he is able to empathize with fellow division-mate Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, who suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz last week.

The WBC light welterweight champion has been preparing hard for what could be the toughest test of his professional career thus far. On April 20, he will face Ryan Garcia at New York’s Barclays Center. Haney’s championship belt will be at stake. Unfortunately, ‘Rolly’ Romero had to part with his on Saturday, March 30. Marking his debut in the 140-pound division, the heavy-hitting Isaac Cruz knocked out Romero in the eighth round to become the new WBA light welterweight champion.

He also wanted to know what Haney felt about Romero’s knockout loss. “He looked good. Can’t, can’t, can’t, can’t, um, can’t say anything bad. He he fought a great fight; he did everything that uh that that he said he was going to do,” said the WBC light welterweight champion about the new WBA belt holder.

Then, moving on, Devin Haney said that Rolando Romero displayed resilience. Hence, one cannot refrain from paying respect to his fortitude. He said, “He showed you know resilience he he got hurt, kept fighting, got hurt again, kept fighting, um he he could have quit when they was asking him if he if he want to stop the fight; he said he wanted to keep fighting, so I take my hat off to him.

In response, Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather Promotions CEO, launched scathing criticisms of such attempts. Lambasting De La Hoya and Hopkins’ lack of decorum, he asked what would have happened if ‘Rolly’ had been grievously injured.
