Arnold Barboza Jr. (29-0-0) vs. Sean McComb (18-1-0)

32-year-old Long Beach, California-born Barboza Jr. will face European light welterweight title holder Sean McComb, from Belfast, Northern Ireland. They will have a ten-round fight. It is interesting to note that Barboza Jr.’s name made news reportedly as a substitute for either Haney or Garcia, lest either of them choose to pull out of the fight. While Barboza Jr. retired the South African Xolisani Ndongeni on January 6, McComb scored a unanimous victory over Sam Maxwell to defend the European title on December 2, last year.

Bektemir Melikuziev (13-1-0) vs. Pierre Dibombe (22-0-1)

The heavy-hitting Uzbek Melikuziev last knocked out the American Alantez Fox on October 7 to defend the WBA international super middleweight championship. He faces the unbeaten 32-year-old Pierre Dibombe for a ten-round match. The Frenchman had his last fight on June 17 of last year.

John ‘Scrappy’ Ramirez (13-0-0) vs. David Jimenez (15-1-0)

Los Angeles, California-born Ramirez will meet Costa Rican David Jimenez for the WBA interim super flyweight title. The former currently ranks number 1 in the WBA 115-pound rankings, whereas the latter stands in fifth place. While Ramirez won his last bout on October 21 via knockout, the ‘Medallita’ triumphed unanimously over his opponent on February 23 this year.

Charles Conwell (18-0-0) vs. Nathaniel Gallimore (22-7-1)

The light middleweight division will see some action when unbeaten Michigan native Charles Conwell goes against Kingston, Jamaica-born Nathaniel Gallimore. The duo will slug it out in a ten-round bout. Reportedly, it will be the first fight the American boxer fights under the Golden Boy Promotions’ banner. Gallimore faced defeats in his last two bouts. Whereas Conwell did not fight last year. He won his last bout on November 26, 2022.

From the responses that have poured in since the announcement, it appears the majority of followers aren’t too happy about it. Both Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia, who have known each other since their amateur days, had been keen on settling their argument in the professional arena.

A Rumble That Stumbled

After their closing bouts last year, an agreement was reached, only to falter subsequently as, reportedly, Garcia changed his mind to fight Rolando Romero. Finally, after days of back and forth, better sense prevailed. The match between the light welterweight champion and the former interim lightweight champion came to fruition. But the hurdles were far from over. Ensuing weeks saw bizarre online behavior from ‘KingRy’. Causing widespread concern, it even led to questions over his suitability to participate in such a big contest. Though inconsistent tweets from his end still make an appearance, the phase seems to have drawn to a close.
