Before the bell was rung at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Devin Haney‘s cornerman Rodney Crisler suspected that Ryan Garcia could surprise the fans. Observing Garcia’s demeanor before he stepped inside the ring with Haney, Crisler felt an unnatural calmness and focus accompanying ‘KingRy’. Likewise, he feared for ‘The Dream’ although most fans were sure of Haney’s victory against Garcia.

So, what was this peculiar detail that Crisler noticed just minutes prior to Garcia beating Haney up black and blue? Speaking to FightHype, after Devin Haney’s memorable loss against a boxer whose mental health was widely questioned, cornerman Crisler laid emphasis on the music ‘KingRy’ listened to while in the locker room.

Ryan Garcia maintained his aura listening to violins

Ryan Garcia proved once again how effectively one achieves deception with elements of theatricality. Likewise, he had an entire orchestra of violinists playing symphony inside his locker room while he warmed up before walking out to face Devin Haney. At this, out of curiosity, when Haney’s cornerman Crisler visited Garcia’s locker room, he realized Garcia meant business and was on his way to rattling ‘The Dream’. “I went to his room, Ryan was relaxed,” realized Crisler.

He had four-band violinists right there. And he’s calm and just cool. When I saw that, I was like sh*t. And I told the team, ‘Hey man, this guy is listening to violin music, getting his aura right, all that right. That means a lot, you know,'” he added.

Along these lines, Crisler went on to bemoan that most fighters these days listen to rap to get hyped up. However, unlike most boxers, since Garcia listened to violins, “church props and all that other stuff,” Crisler believed Ryan “had his Zen right, going into this fight.” However, Crisler also believes that the extra pounds Garcia carried during the fight also helped him.

At the weigh-in, Garcia overweighed by 3.2 lbs. As a result, despite beating Devin Haney by majority decision, he did not receive the WBC Super-Lightweight title. However, cornerman Crisler feels ‘KingRy’ deliberately carried the extra pounds on the night of April 20th to gain an advantage over ‘The Dream’. “He did not want to lose them three pounds, he knew the limit. If he lost two pounds, he would have to lose. So, they planned that perfect I think. I don’t want to say no names, but, they planned that perfect,” said Crisler.

We made some mistakes with the team, but, we can bounce back from this. Like I say, Devin’s strong. I mean one of truest fighters out there. I don’t hold this against him. Sometimes we got to sit back and see what’s going on around us instead of assuming things,” he added with hope. Anyway, do you think listening to violins significantly impacted Ryan Garcia’s performance? Let us know in the comments below.
