Dmitry Bivol prefers to plan ahead, and his upcoming fight against the world champion is strategically positioned to defend his light heavyweight title in a clash against Lyndon Arthur at The Day of Reckoning boxing event. Boasting an unblemished record of 21-0, Bivol steps into the ring following notable victories against Canelo Álvarez and Gilberto Ramirez. As he sets the stage for another thrilling battle, Bivol aims to solidify his status as a dominant force in the boxing world.
Irrespective of the outcome, the next opponent he will face will be the winner of the Artur Beterbiev vs. Callum Smith, which is being held on January 13th. However, Vadim Kornilov, his manager, does not think rushing into the fight would be a good idea.

Is Dmitry Bivol ready to face Artur Beterbiev?
In 2022, the Russian fighter enjoyed a standout year by convincingly defeating both Canelo Álvarez and Gilberto Ramírez. His victory over Alvarez brought him significant attention. However, the 33-year-old chose to take a hiatus this year, primarily focusing on recovering and conditioning his right hand. After a break that long, Kornilov is not very confident about diving into his next fight,
In an interview with Boxing News, Kornilov said, “It would not be smart for us to just go straight into that fight. After that one year off that he’s had, we did need a good fight to come back and get Dmitry in the ring.” He was not upset either that Eddie Hearn had revealed their plans beforehand.
After a prolonged break and undergoing surgery to address his right hand, Bivol aspires to become an undisputed champion at 175. However, he faces the looming prospect of a teased bout with ‘The Mexican Monster’.

Is David Benavidez on the list as well?
The fighters share a history of behind-closed-doors sparring. Bivol, known for traditional boxing and decision victories, hasn’t secured a KO win in over five years. He has mostly relied on outpointing opponents in his last 12 fights.
In contrast, David Benavidez, with his recent victories against Caleb Plant and Demetrius Andrade, showcases raw power and a preference for all-out war. Benavidez’s current form and hard-hitting combinations pose a credible threat, potentially exploiting Bivol’s aging status. Moving to 175, Benavidez anticipates increased strength and speed, confident in leveraging these advantages in the ring.
