Gervonta Davis is a busy man these days. The WBA (Regular) Lightweight champion of the world will defend his title on 14th January. Most fans and followers treat it as a precursor to the mega-fight with Ryan Garcia on 15th April. In between a hectic schedule, The Tank finds time to attend interviews and chats. New York-based sports and popular culture website Barstool Sports invited Davis to its Sundae Conversations, hosted by Caleb Pressley.

Gervonta’s secret conversation

So, Pressley wanted the champ to explain the difference between ‘beating an opponent up’ and ‘beating an opponent off’. Laughing, Gervonta could barely manage an answer. Caleb then proceeded to the main segment, where Davis had to open a taped FedEx box.

The Tank discovered a pile of money and a cover with the phrase “Blackmail” inscribed on the top of it when he opened the package. On the inside of the cover was an iPhone. Caleb declared, “We do have an audio recording on that iPhone gadget. Do you confess to having engaged in some extremely heinous behavior? You want to know what it is?”

The recording had purportedly Davis and an unknown person discussing the former diving a bout. Caleb then explained that he caught Gervonta red-handed holding the bills and took a pic to corroborate the allegation. Pushing ahead, Caleb wondered what the grand jury might take on the whole incident and quickly changed the subject.

Why didn’t he say something??

Throughout the charade, viewers saw a flustered Gervonta Davis, who could barely muster a response. However, fans were quick as a fox to share their views.

The light humor behind the act wasn’t missed by many.

Most fans expected the champ to react and lash out with a befitting response.

Now that was brutal, right below the belt.

Gervonta Davis got the moniker ‘The Tank’ for one good reason. The proportion of Davis’ enormous head to the rest of his body gave the appearance of a battle tank amusing his trainer at that time.

But he decided to use his head inside a boxing ring rather than let it rot with academics. So, the boxer, often viewed as a miniature version of Mike Tyson, took the gloves at age five. He left Digital Harbor High school to focus more on a boxing career.

Despite growing up in one of the most violent parts of the city and with limited education, Davis has done the best for himself and his family.
