The boxing world may have a blood feud in the making. Title holder in three different weight categories, Gervonta Davis, is rated among the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world. The WBA Super and Regular Lightweight and WBA –  IBF Super Featherweight champion lashed out at British boxer Ricky Hatton.

Davis’ record stands at twenty-seven wins against nil losses. Out of the twenty-seven, twenty-five were astounding knock-outs! Finding another boxer with a 93% knockout-to-win margin would take a lot of work. Since 2015, The Tank’s promoter is none other than Floyd The Money Mayweather’s Mayweather Promotions.

Lancastrian Campbell Hatton has been making waves from the eastern shores of the Atlantic. The twenty-one-year-old son of former champion Ricky Hatton has won all the bouts since his debut in March 2021.

It would be good to glance at the background that caused Gervonta‘s recent flare-up.

Hatton – Mayweather History

Flagged ‘Undefeated,’ Gervonta’s mentor and promoter Floyd Mayweather and Campbell’s father faced off on December 8th, 2007, at the MGM Arena in Las Vegas.

The Money was defending his WBC title against the Hitman’s challenge. During the tenth round, Hatton received a brutal left hook from Mayweather. It became clear that Hatton would not be able to carry on further. The fight ended by the tenth round when Hatton’s corner threw in the towel.

Despite retaining the IBO and Rings’ Light-Welterweight title, the writing on the wall was clear for Ricky Hatton. He retired from professional boxing in 2012 after losing the last bout against Vyacheslav Senchenko.

Long since retired, both the former champions of late have been making appearances through exhibition matches. Mayweather will fight Youtuber Deji Olatunji on November 13th at Dubai’s Coca-Cola stadium. On the other hand, Hatton will face another retired champion, Marco Antonio Barrera, on November 8th at Manchester’s AO Arena.

Hatton had been quite vocal about how Mayweather has been holding exhibition matches. He said to World Boxing News, “I don’t get it. “Surely, he’s made enough Money. Is he skint, or is it greed? “I think his latest YouTuber [Deji] has won one and lost three, something like that. I mean, come on. Who wants to watch that? It’s making a mockery of boxing. “He fought Conor McGregor, and I got that. I understood why people bought into it. But for me, it would have to be something like that for me to consider doing it. But not someone [like Deji] who’s won one and lost three.”

Surprisingly, the old champion isn’t opposed to the idea of again facing his old foes – Mayweather and Pacquiao.

Fresh Blood: Gervonta Davis versus Campbell Hatton?

The Money protégé didn’t take time to threaten the junior Hatton if they were ever to meet. Taking to Twitter on an open possibility, Gervonta clarified the outcome from his angle.
