The other day, David Benavidez slammed ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for being “afraid” of him. The undisputed Super Middleweight champion has yet to get back on an offer tabled by his promoters. Even as updates on developments at Alvarez’s camp flow through, he isn’t bereft of any support, voicing his concerns and plan. Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn, for one, stands tall as one of his biggest supporters. And he minced no words when talking about the Benavidez offer.

At the beginning of the month, news came about on the Benavidez Team reaching out to ‘Canelo’ Alvarez with a proposal in the neighborhood of $50 million. So it’s been three months since ‘The Mexican Monster’ fought. On March 25, he sealed Caleb Plant‘s fate. He clarified his intentions by calling out ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for a fight in September. Nevertheless, setting off the chase, talks flew hither and thither. Many times and often, Alvarez made it clear that after John Ryder, he had only Dmitry Bivol in mind.

Too little, says Eddie Hearn

As days passed, with no word from the Mexican champion, David Benavidez launched a fresh salvo taunting him, questioning, “Why are you afraid of me?FightHype reached over to Eddie Hearn to understand why the champion did not respond. The reporter highlighted that almost every fan wants Alvarez to fight Benavidez. Even though an array of fighters, such as Badou Jack and Jermall Charlo, remain available. The Matchroom honcho agreed and said that ‘Canelo’ can clash with ‘The Mexican Monster’ anytime.

However, the offer has to be genuinely good, “…but I know if I’m paying the purses for Canelo Alvarez against Benavidez, I’m paying a lot more money than the numbers that were discussed…When the reporter shared the offer stood around $45 million, Hearn said, Not enough money nowhere near enough money… According to the Englishman, if he had to dole out the amount for that fight, it would be much more than what Benavidez’s camp proposed.

Though the decision is entirely Alvarez’s, Hearn clarified that the amount is far from what he usually receives. Calling the undisputed champion fearless, the Matchroom boss said he could take on David Benavidez without hesitation. However, the deal should be commensurate with his standing. According to Eddie Hearn, David Benavidez, and Sampson Lewkowicz should contact him to settle the amount-related issues, which would be better than PBC’s offer.
