After Devin Haney became the WBC Super-Lightweight champion in his last fight with Regis Prograis, Ryan Garcia publicly called out ‘The Dream’. In doing so, he received Haney’s attention too. However, after a training session with Floyd Mayweather, ‘KingRy’ informed the boxing world that he was focused on Rolando Romero.
In this context, after Rolando Romero vs. Isaac Cruz became official today, the Chairperson of Matchroom Sport, Eddie Hearn revealed that ‘KingRy’ had texted Hearn about “a legacy fight“. In addition, Hearn suggested Garcia two boxers he could face next in the ring.

Eddie Hearn wants Ryan Garcia to fight former and current champion at 140 lbs
According to Eddie Hearn, a month ago, Ryan Garcia personally reached out to the promoter and demanded a fight with Devin Haney. Given Garcia and Haney’s following in the sport, Hearn was happy and wanted to stage the fight. Soon, Oscar De La Hoya and Eric Gomez reached out to Hearn too. “Firstly, Ryan DMed me like a month ago and said, ‘Just want to let you know I want the Devin Haney fight. That’s my next fight’. And then Oscar and Eric reached out and we started talking about that fight,” revealed Hearn.
However, Hearn informed that Garcia soon changed his mind and no longer replied to him. But, under current circumstances, now that Rolando Romero has a deal with Isaac Cruz, Hearn thinks it is best if ‘KingRy’ faces either Devin Haney or Regis Prograis. “Hopefully, Ryan just turns to Devin. And we go ahead and make Haney vs. Garcia which is 100% the fight to make. Or, if he wants to fight Regis, we’ll get Regis,” declared Hearn. Along these lines, he also explained why Garcia vs. Romero did not come to fruition.

PBC did not want Garcia to face Rolly
As per Hearn’s understanding of the industry, PBC does not want to match one of their fighters against someone who is a fan favorite. In his opinion, since Rolly was with PBC, they did not want him to face Ryan Garcia who has a commendable fan following. “The only way I can interpret it as someone who would know the industry is that Rolly, you got PBC, DAZN, and Golden Boy. PBC wanna keep Rolly and give him to his guys,” said Hearn.

“Ryan Garcia is not yet a PBC fighter. PBC are always very reluctant to give you one of their guys or a belt when you’re the favorite of the fight which Ryan would be,” he thoughtfully added. While Hearn could not see Rolly fighting Garcia, Oscar De La Hoya however hoped ‘KingRy’ would meet the winner of Cruz vs. Rolly. Well, time will only tell what is next for Ryan. As of now, who would you like to see him against? Let us know in the comments below.
