There are very few takers of Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul. But everyone knows the fight will explode on the combat sports scene. Despite the raging criticism against the fight, Eddie Hearn foresees one thing that could work in the event’s favor. What is it?

Since the announcement of Tyson vs. Paul for July 20, ardent fans have blasted off the event as a mismatch and a money grab. The British promoter also has similar views. But as a promoter who knows how to stage an event, he is already vouching for the event’s success. While he continues to label Netflix’s ambitious endeavor into sports as “disgusting,” he believes it might turn out to be a “big event.” He also didn’t shy away from commenting on the current state of the boxing world. What did he say?

Hearn, 44, along with his father Barry Hearn, sat down with Piers Morgan and, when asked about the upcoming Tyson vs. Paul, expressed that the current world was “crazy.” He said the younger generation was built on views, narratives, and controversy. Moreover, as a hardcore fight fan, he found it hard to digest that his “hero” was fighting a 30-year younger opponent.

Hearn said, “As a hardcore fight fan, someone who has been around boxing since I was nine years old, I find it disgusting that a 58-year-old man – who was my hero growing up – firstly has to even get back in the ring, from a financial point of view with the amount of money that man was paid or partially paid during his career, to get in a ring with a 25-year-old guy who can’t really fight.”

However, the Matchroom Boxing lynchpin also understood the scale of the Netflix project. While there is heated debate about the fight, people are talking about it. So, he believes, the people will tune in, and the fight will do good numbers. He continued, “I’m just going to give you my honest opinion which is, it will sell. People will watch. It’ll be a big event, and I don’t like it.”

Jake Paul’s business partner, Nakisa Bidarian, shares Hearn’s take and opines that the fight will attract the masses. What’s more? He isn’t concerned about the criticism and wants more people to debate about the fight.

Jake Paul’s business partner hypes up the fight

Bidarian, the co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, took to his X handle and pointed out that Tyson vs. Paul gave combat sports its largest single distribution channel in history. Notably, Netflix has over 250 million subscribers, which might ensure the fight goes down as the most-watched boxing match in history.

He wrote, “Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson gives combat sports its largest single distribution platform in history. Debate the fight all you want, which is exactly what we want…but equally accept that this is a great opportunity to bring boxing to the masses.” It remains to be seen whether Hearn’s prediction and Bidarian’s comments will come true.
