Lennox Lewis, the legendary boxer, recently stirred speculation about the future of combat sports by sharing a video on Instagram. The video depicted a human boxer facing off against a robot. While the authenticity of the video is questionable, it has sparked a crucial debate about the potential integration of robots in sports, particularly in boxing.

The rise of robotics has led to concerns about job displacement. Moreover, the world has witnessed its impact across various sectors. The idea of robots replacing human fighters raises intriguing questions about the direction combat sports might take in the coming years. The man who even defeated Mike Tyson,  appeared inquisitive about this futuristic prospect, and pondered on Instagram, “Could the future of boxing actually look like this in a hundred years?”.

Fans debate the future of the sport along with Lennox Lewis

As the video surfaced on social media, it incited the fans of the sport, to wonder about the possibility of robots taking over the sport as well. To this question, one fan appeared to be fully confident about the possibility of such a future. He claimed, “Probably yes! 80% of the new generation are weak.”

Another fan, sarcastically remarked, “At least they’d all fight eachother.” This comment was directed at the current status of the sport where it is sometimes very hard for fights to be made between two elite fighters.

Someone else praised Lewis’s skills and his contribution to the sport. He wrote, “Mr. Lennox Lewis will always be remembered as king of the ring. Robots can never replace champions. The sport would never be the same.”

Moreover, a fan also boldly claimed, “It still couldn’t take a proper @mrlennoxlewis right hand… my money would always be on the lion to short circuit that thing. #NoRobotTest. to you all Len.”

Another fan pointed out that such a fight would never be appealing to the fans. He claimed, “It will never have the same appeal like seeing humans do it”.
