In his last fight against David Avanesyan with the WBO World Welterweight title on the line, Terence Crawford sealed a 6th-round knockout win. Yet another terrific performance by ‘The Bud’ saw the 35-year-old snatch his 39th professional win. Despite Avanesyan arriving with a record of only 3 losses and 29 wins, Crawford ruled the ring.

However, going into the sixth round of the fight, Crawford’s Everlast gloves burst open and revealed their padding. Center referee Sparkle Lee temporarily stopped the fight and inspected Crawford’s gloves before allowing him to further continue his run inside the ring. Undoubtedly, this unprecedented “malfunction” raised questions regarding Everlast’s concern and quality.

Everlast acknowledges the use of defective leather

Everlast, “the leader in professional boxing equipment” took to Twitter and opened up about a “batch of defective leather” that caused the bursting of Crawford’s gloves in his 39th pro appearance in the ring. In their statement, Everlast clarified that Crawford and his camp attempted neither foul play nor tampering.

“During the development cycle of the custom fight gloves used in Crawford vs. Avanyesan a batch of defective leather was used in production resulting in a malfunction during the competition. In such cases, Everlast follows proper protocol by providing back up competition pairs to be replaced pending a decision by the sanctioning body overseeing the fight,” stated Everlast, taking both safety and performance seriously.

Terence Crawford did not tamper with the equipment for a better result in the Avanesyan fight

Crawford did not attempt foul play and did not bother himself with tampering. According to the statement released, Crawford won the fight in a fair manner and with his might. “No foul play was at hand, nor was there any tampering of the product on behalf of Terence Crawford and his camp,” stated Everlast in their tweet.

With this victory over David Avanesyan, Crawford now holds a record of 0 losses and 39 wins. It has been over a decade since Crawford made his professional debut in the ring. With yet another successful win, Crawford remains a threat in the welterweight division of boxing. With this latest victory over Avanesyan, Crawford now has 30 KO wins. After he won the WBO title against Jeff Horn in 2018, he has had six successful defences.
