“Everybody Wants Drama”: Canelo Alvarez Refuses to Disrespect Jermell Charlo

Canelo Alvarez is getting ready for his second fight of the year, against Jermell Charlo. Before this, Alvarez went against John Ryder in a homecoming fight and won comfortably. Now the Undisputed champion in the Super Middleweight division has decided to against the Undisputed Champion in the Super Welterweight division. So, Charlo will be moving up two weight divisions and challenging ‘Cinnamon’. The fight has been scheduled to take place on September 30, 2023.

Well, both fighters just got done with their first press conference ahead of their bout. Well, during the conference, the fighters maintained a cordial attitude toward each other.  Alvarez also addressed the respect he holds for Jermell Charlo.

The pound-for-pound king has praised his opponent. He also went ahead to say that he sees flashes of himself in the young fighter. Alvarez also added that he felt blissful to be healthy so that he could participate in such a big boxing event. So much so that he’s getting to face the Undisputed Champion of a different division and a gutsy fighter like Jermell Charlo.

Then he stated how Charlo also loves taking challenges and showing up for every fight he’s called out for.  Alvarez stated, “I know everybody wants drama and everything. They want to fight each other right other and talking sh*t, but when two fighters are 100% focused, like we are right now, I think it’s going to be a great fight. No joke.” Recently Charlo also slammed the media for writing “crazy sh*t” about him before the bout.

Alvarez loves the skills of Jermell Charlo, it’s pretty evident from his statements. Before this bout, everybody was talking about how at first, Charlo’s twin brother, Jermall Charlo, was actually being considered for this September fight. But, Alvarez has said otherwise when asked about his intentions regarding the Charlo brothers.

Many believed that Jermall Charlo was an obvious choice for Alvarez’s upcoming bout, but the announcement shocked the boxing fans.. Recently, according to DAZN, Alvarez has stated that Jermell was always his team’s first choice, and he never thought about Jermall Charlo as his next opponent.

Furthermore, when asked on Showtime Sports, Canelo Alvarez talked about who he thinks is a better fighter among both brothers. Alvarez said, “I think Jermell is a better fighter.” He believes Jermell’s skills are better than his brother, and additionally, Alvarez stated that he has also faced better opponents than his brother.
