Just two days after he pulled off the unimaginable, the buzz for a rematch is already heating up. Against all odds, Terence Crawford moved up two weight classes and delivered a stunning win over Canelo Alvarez. But given his standing in the ring, some folks think Canelo should get a shot to clear the air. Former world champ Danny Garcia is throwing his support behind a potential Canelo-Crawford 2 matchup, joining the conversation and stirring up excitement among fans.

What sets Garcia’s views apart is that he has the rare distinction of inflicting a defeat on Terence Crawford. The upset goes back to the days when they were amateurs. Reports suggest the contract for the showdown against Canelo Alvarez did not have the rematch clause. But then again, it will be wise to remember. A rematch clause existed for the Spence fight. And to honor his side of the bargain, Crawford even vacated his belt. Still, the fight never materialized.

Canelo vs Crawford II is the fight that just fits

Danny Garcia is all set for his last professional bout. Scheduled for October 18 at the Barclays Center, the former world champion will face Daniel Gonzalez on a card promoted by his DSG Promotions. So after they discussed last weekend’s fight in Las Vegas, Ellie Seckbach asked, “What do you think he does next? What do you think Canelo does next?” And Garcia reflected, “I think the only thing is the rematch.

According to him, the sequel makes for a compelling argument. “Terrence is going to get more money. Canelo will try to get his revenge. I can’t see Terence doing nothing less than the rematch, to be honest,Danny Garcia explained.

Garcia praised the Nebraskan switch-hitter with whom he shares a 1-1 amateur record. It was Canelo’s performance that left him bewildered. “I was surprised Canelo didn’t use more of his jab. I felt like if he used his jab a little bit more and didn’t load up so much, he would have been a lot better,” he opined.

As far as Crawford is concerned, he didn’t rule out a second meetup with Canelo.

Path to the rematch

I don’t know; we shall see,” he replied when John Sutcliffe asked him at Allegiant Stadium, where the NFL season kicked off with the Raiders vs. Chargers matchup. Then, on the other hand, Canelo remains equally uncertain. “We haven’t had a chance to talk about the next step and the future yet. Of course, I just wanna enjoy my family,” he’s reported to have said.

Most significantly, the contract for the September 13 fight doesn’t seem to carry the rematch clause.

Canelo is still under contract with the Riyadh Season. With two fights potentially set for 2026, the four-fight deal is halfway through. So far details about who Canelo would face next when he returns on the Cinco de Mayo weekend remain unavailable.

Riyadh Season, the event that hosted the epic showdown between Canelo and Crawford last weekend, is gearing up to bring us the highly anticipated rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol in just four months. If everyone’s on the same page, then a showdown in Las Vegas, or really anywhere else, could definitely be in the cards.

The fight at Allegiant Stadium broke the gate record and garnered over 41 million views on Netflix. So a rerun could prove yet another blockbuster.

What about you? Do you want to see Canelo vs. Crawford 2?
