The highly anticipated match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson has concluded. Nevertheless, it is back to square one—who is it going to be next? During the post-fight interview, Tyson hinted he might leave future bouts to chance if circumstances align. But what about ‘The Problem Child’? With the aim of taking his boxing career to the next level, the Ohioan seems to have Canelo Alvarez in his crosshairs. If not Alvarez, several other contenders could be in the mix.

Former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs pondered how a fight against Jake Paul would shape up during an Instagram live session. He even mentioned the latter’s elder brother Logan Paul, the WWE superstar, who returned to the ring last year to face Dillon Danis. It’s been eight years since ‘The Cannon’, who will turn 53 next month, fought. Recently, discussions about Briggs facing UFC legend Quintin ‘Rampage’ Jackson gained traction but ultimately fizzled due to a few challenges.

Shannon Briggs: Checking for a potential clash

While speaking from his car, Briggs reflected on the Tyson-Paul fight. The former WBO heavyweight champion wished Mike Tyson had been more aggressive, throwing more punches at Jake Paul. “I would have liked to see Mike throw some more punches. I wonder why he wasn’t, you know, what I’m saying, getting on my out there like he should have,” said Briggs.

He added further, “I’ll be fighting in March. We’re working on a few names on the list, and we’re ready to rock.” One of the fans sought clarification on the ‘Rampage’ Jackson fight. Smiling, Shannon Briggs replied that Jackson appears to be ‘scared’  and is now fighting someone else. Reportedly, a lack of promoters and other factors prevented their fight from materializing.

Now it was his turn to throw a poser for everyone: “Who thinks I should fight Jake Paul? Who wants to see Shannon Briggs versus Jake Paul?” One of the followers suggested, “Briggs vs. Paul, can we get that!!!” So ‘The Cannon’ shot back—which one of the Paul brothers they meant—Jake or his elder brother Logan?

Then playfully exaggerating his age to 52,000 years, Shannon Briggs joked whether he would be old enough for a shot at fighting against one of the Paul brothers. Taking another dig, he proposed fighting with handicaps, such as tying up his hands or using only one hand.

A Street Sparring for Everyone

In the lead-up to the Tyson-Paul fight, fans came across an interesting video. It featured Shannon Briggs, who was born in Brooklyn, engaged in playful sparring with fellow New Yorker and legend Mike Tyson. In front of the Atlantic Tower in Brooklyn, the shirtless former champions exchange playful slap touches before embracing, demonstrating mutual love and respect for each other.

Fans would be eager now and waiting—whether Jake Paul would be willing to consider a fight against ‘The Cannon’. Unlike ‘Iron’ Mike, Briggs retired more recently and is slightly younger than Tyson.

What is your opinion? Does a matchup between Jake Paul and Shannon Briggs make for a compelling case?
