The Floyd Mayweather– Devin Haney fiasco continues. In the latest developments, the Haney clan has come out singing praises for the undefeated welterweight legend. Surprising? Well….
Earlier, speculations emerged that the 46-year-old Mayweather was the man behind Ryan Garcia agreeing to pick Roland Romero as his next opponent over Devin Haney. This heightened when ‘King Ry’s’ Promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, a staunch rival of Mayweather, took shots at him for potentially trying to sabotage the Haney fight. Furthermore, in a conversation with Andrew Capucetti, ‘Money’ snubbed the two-division champion by picking Canelo Alvarez, Garcia, and Gervonta Davis as the biggest stars in boxing. While no response came from Devin Haney himself, the fighter’s father and trainer, Bill Haney has now broken his silence.

Bill Haney’s ode to his son and Floyd Mayweather
On Instagram, an ardent supporter and defender of his son Devin, Bill wrote a heartwarming message, directly combusting all the speculations of turbulent waters between Mayweather and ‘The Dream.’
Posting a montage of images that featured both ‘Pretty Boy’ and Devin Haney through major phases of their career, and together, the senior Haney dismissed “fake narratives.” He wrote, “I knew it was special when I put Devin and Floyd together. The same work ethic I saw in Floyd is what I saw in Devin. Now the world sees the comparisons and the fake narratives created on both of them.”
Junior Haney and the former welterweight champion had sparred against each other in 2020. Mayweather, in preparation for his fight against Conor McGregor, roped in Devin as his sparring partner at his Las Vegas gym.

Remembering those days in a conversation with FightHype, Money noted, “We only did like probably 4 rounds because I wasn’t in no shape. Devin Haney, sharp skills, great boxer.” Furthermore, in the same post, Bill Haney went on to invoke the ‘Devin Haney’ era as well.

Devin Haney Era Invoked, Again
Bill Haney in the post also commented on how Mayweather in his time faced flak from his critics, which Devin Haney also received. He noted, “Critics (blockers or haters) use to say Floyd couldn’t sell out arenas, had brittle hands, and he was boring, etc. Sounds familiar? Floyd always told us to never listen to what they are saying. After 17 years of hard work and dedication. The Devin Haney Era is now.”
