Though he reclaimed his undisputed championship, the May 3 clash against William Scull seems to have exposed a chink in Canelo Alvarez‘s armor. So if Terence Crawford exploits it well, then he may have more than a puncher’s chance to secure a historic win. Both Canelo and Crawford are now scheduled for a mega showdown on September 12 in Las Vegas.

As of now, the Mexican superstar remains an overwhelming favorite to win the war. But given how the Scull fight unfolded, when instead of delivering a superlative performance, Canelo ended up chasing a runner across the ring, many believe that Crawford could eclipse the super middleweight king. Jeff Mayweather’s keen eyes barely miss a twitch. If Crawford hacks it through, then he can easily clinch a momentous victory.

Advice for Terence Crawford: The crown belongs to the clever

A reporter shared how there has been a resurgence in confidence. There’s hardly any comparison between William Scull and Terence Crawford. But after watching the May 3 bout, some believe Crawford might have a chance of beating Canelo. Some even emphasized that Crawford is a much better fighter. Jeff Mayweather agreed. There are many people who feel the same way. And that there’s nothing wrong with the changing narrative. But he also highlighted that Crawford will have to fight a very smart fight against Canelo. “He’s going to have to go, not toe-to-toe, with Canelo,” Floyd Mayweather’s uncle stressed.

He added, “He’s going to have to fight real smart with Canelo, and he’s going to have to do a little bit of what Scull did, you know, to actually walk away with his hand raised.” It’s an advice a few others seem to share.

For long, Jaron Ennis‘ father and trainer, Derek ‘Bozy’ Ennis, had expressed that Terence Crawford may have a real chance to stage a huge upset against Canelo Alvarez. According to Bozy, given his outstanding skills, Crawford can easily outbox Canelo. Canelo’s granite chin remains a major cause of concern.

But that’s inconsequential, Bozy revealed. Because Canelo has yet to be hit by someone who’s as precise as Crawford. So, what the Nebraskan champion could do is go for the body first and then quickly hit Canelo’s head. “Go to the body, go to the head, go back down to the body, and then once you keep on going to the body, he’s going to drop his hands. Once he drops his hands, Good night.

A worthy cause, a worthy battle

Earlier mentioning the instance when Terence Crawford faced Canelo Alvarez after Turki Alalshikh officially announced their fight, the reporter asked Jeff Mayweather, “It was like 7:00 in the morning or something like that, so maybe that had a lot to do with it, but you know, uh, they brought him (Crawford) in to face off. The crowd didn’t exactly go crazy. Do you think this fight might, a little bit, uh, hurt the promotion for that fight?

It could have,” Mayweather reflected. However, he doesn’t believe it will have a significant impact. His confidence stemmed from the fact that Crawford is still widely respected and that many people think Crawford could potentially win the fight. As long as people believe Crawford can turn the tables, the fight is still important and needs to happen.
