Floyd Mayweather and Deji are yet to step inside the ring, but the former is already contemplating a future fight. In a recent statement, ‘TBE’ even revealed that he would like to return to UK and fight in 2023. With that statement out in public, fans pondered over who Floyd Mayweather looked to fight. Speaking of the UK, a group of boxing fans thought about Ricky Hatton, whom ‘Money’ met in 2007, while the former was still undefeated in pro boxing.

Ricky Hatton apart, Jake Paul, after he defeated Anderson Silva on October 29, expressed how Mayweather was still a “massive draw” and hence worth a fight. However, Mayweather responded with a lack of heed. Anyway, what did Mayweather think about a rematch with Ricky Hatton in the ring?

Although he planned a UK return in terms of an exhibition fight, Mayweather felt Hatton was no more the opponent he would want to meet. Mayweather squared off against Hatton on 12th August, 2007, with the WBA World Welterweight title on the line. “Why do it [fight] for fake? Ricky Hatton, we had our chance. The great thing at that particular time is that he was at the top of his game,” Mayweather replied by saying.

At the time Mayweather fought Hatton, both the fighters were on top of their games and in their prime. In fact, Hatton was undefeated with a record comprising 0 losses and 43 wins.

Floyd Mayweather called Ricky Hatton a legend he would not want to fight

When they fought 15 years ago, Mayweather was 30 and Hatton was 29. The fight was scheduled for 12 rounds, but in round 10, Mayweather snatched a TKO win. At that time, ‘Money’ had conquered one of the biggest stars of British boxing. Hatton retired 5 years earlier than Mayweather did. He retired with a record of 3 losses and 45 wins.
