Whenever there is a discussion about the greatest boxers of all time, Floyd Mayweather’s name always makes it to the list. For over 2 decades, the man has shown his boxing prowess inside the ring and has carved a niche for himself in the industry. However, there was one man even Mayweather believes was his toughest opponent.

Floyd Mayweather was quizzed about his roughest opponent, and many fans believe that Victor Ortiz was his roughest opponent. But take a look at what Mayweather had to say, ‘Money’ answered, “The roughest fighter probably was a guy named Emmanuel Augustus. “The Drunken Master, he was tough. He was, he was just tough.”

Apparently, Augustus never became a world champion, but his unconventional way of boxing made his opponents fall short in defeating him. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Augustus was a known face in boxing who just went up against any fighter given to him.

Mayweather and Victor Ortiz squared up inside the squared circle on September 17th, 2011. The spectators at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas were excited to see the former WBC welterweight champion going up against Mayweather. However, something unusual occurred at the time, which is still fresh in the minds of boxing fans.

Since the first round of the fight, Mayweather had been outclassing Ortiz, but the latter was also landing some effective punches. But in the fourth round, Ortiz launched an unexpected headbutt at Mayweather, breaking open a cut inside his mouth. Referee Joe Cortez then separated the two competitors and took away points from Ortiz for using this improper technique.

Even Ortiz acknowledged his error and apologized by giving Mayweather a bear embrace. However, Mayweather seized the chance and struck him first with a powerful left-hand punch before landing a right hook.

Apparently, fans believe it was wrong on Mayweather’s part to do so, but it wasn’t illegal and he was announced as the winner of the fight. This incident created a lot of controversies at the time, and some people still believe that Ortiz is to date Mayweather’s roughest opponent.
