Canelo Alvarez has surprised the boxing world with his recent announcement of his next bout against Jermell Charlo. Although after his fight against John Ryder, a lot of people expected him to face David Benavidez next. This is because Alvarez’s promoter had told Benavidez to defeat Caleb Plant before asking for a match-up against him. Though Benavidez won an easy victory, he still didn’t get his heart’s desire.

With Alvarez shifting his sights from Dmitry Bivol to Jermall Charlo and then to Jermell Charlo, a lot of plans ended up getting destroyed by the champion’s actions. One such case is Tim Tszyu, who won’t get his mega-fight against Charlo now. Former World champion Paulie Malignaggi appears to be frustrated as he looked forward to the fight. He went off on Canelo as he shared his response to the situation.

Expressing his frustration towards Alvarez, Malignaggi criticized him for disrupting two highly anticipated fights. As Jermall Charlo was unable to face Alvarez, his twin brother stepped up to face the champion. However, in the midst of making the fight, Alvarez ended up disrupting two fights that fans would have been in a frenzy to watch.

One is Charlo vs Tszyu and the other is Alvarez vs Benavidez. The former World Champion criticized Alvarez as he expressed his disappointment. He stated that he believes that Jermall Charlo could have proven as a challenge to the Mexican Icon. He referred to Charlo moving up two weight classes for the fight and said, “You got weight classes in boxing for a reason”.

Furthermore, he stated that even though ‘Iron Man’ is a “top fighter” he also stressed the importance of weight classes in the sport. Malignaggi said, “Two full weight classes below is Jermell Charlo, an undisputed champion, an excellent fighter in his weight class, but two full weight classes below.” He stated that though everyone knew that the Alvarez- Benavidez fight wouldn’t be taking place. However, he still finds it vexing that “on top of that, Jermell Charlo vs. Tim Tszyu also gets taken away from us. Two super fights were killed in one shot. Boxing fans knew these two fights were terrific fights.” ‘Magic Man’ appeared to be seething as the fight that even he was personally looking forward to, was killed.

Malignaggi remains happy for Jermell Charlo for his bout against Canelo Alvarez

He further added that even though Tszyu “doesn’t have a big presence in the U.S., yet he’s still a known high-level fighter among boxing fans.” Furthermore, he addressed Saul Alvarez and blamed him, “You [Canelo] just managed to kill two big fights in one shot.” He stated that “This is why boxing is a joke.” However, he also stated that he is happy for Charlo as he stated, “It’s a no lose situation [for Charlo].” The boxer stated that even if he loses to Alvarez, he will be losing “to a guy who’s two weight classes bigger than him and gets paid a ton of money for it.”
