Amir Khan is thoroughly enjoying his retired life. The 2004 Athens Olympics silver medalist had a glittering career that lasted for over a decade. Through the years, he crossed paths with some of the biggest names in the era, a few of whom are still active and even at the top of their game.

Having exchanged jabs with them, Amir Khan is aptly positioned to share their strengths and weaknesses. Marcos Villegas caught up with the former light welterweight champion. The Fight Hub TV founder and host wanted to know whether it would be prudent on Terence Crawford‘s part to move up three divisions to fight Canelo Alvarez. As he shared his viewpoint, Amir Khan also mentioned whom he felt was the best P4P boxer in the world.

Amir Khan: The number one for all reasons

Marcos Villegas checked for Khan’s views on the Nebraskan southpaw’s dream of becoming a three-division undisputed champion. The Briton said that while he appreciates both boxers, there’s a reason why weight classes were laid down in boxing.

Then he revealed: Terence Crawford might arguably be the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. But still, he will take a great risk going to that length. Canelo Alvarez might be getting older, but he still possesses lethal power. Hence, it might require Crawford to fight a bit heavier boxers aside from putting a few pounds on himself.

Amir Khan said, “I highly respect and say pound-for-pound the best fighter is uh Crawford by far and beats anyone, but when you start putting weight on and you go up a weight and you fight these guy like guys like Canelo…you’re going to have to spar heavier guys to to get ready for that anyway, so you’re going to be taking a lot of wear and tear anyway. You’re going to have to put adding few pounds on do you need does he need to put that pressure on himself?

On May 7, 2016, Khan himself, climbing up two weight classes, met the Mexican icon at the T Mobile Arena. Three years later, for his last attempt at a world title, he fought Terence Crawford at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden. Both campaigns ended disastrously for him. Canelo Alvarez knocked him out in the sixth round. Whereas, Terence Crawford scored a technical knockout victory, also during the sixth round.

Where the two differ, according to the ‘King’

Later, when Villegas asked about some of the major differences between the two, Khan explained that, though Canelo Alvarez is strong, he easily gets hit in return. On the other hand, Terence Crawford never allows anyone to hit him that easily. The ‘King’ then took his own experience while fighting ‘Bud’ four years ago. However, both the champions are heavy hitters, he emphasized.
