To many, it might appear that Anthony Joshua chased the rounds and not the opponents in 2023. He walked the distance while wrapping up Jermaine Franklin‘s challenge. Four months later, he dispatched Robert Helenius much earlier, in the seventh round. Now, roughly half an hour ago, he displayed further improvement.
He faced another Scandinavian in Otto Wallin. But, unlike the previous instance, Anthony Joshua stopped the match as it barely scrapped towards the halfway mark. An injured Wallin very soon realized he didn’t have any answers to the questions Joshua had brought. By the fifth round, tanked out, his team took the prudent measure to retain him back as the bell for the sixth round rang. After the third consecutive win of the year, ‘AJ’ might have finally announced his arrival on the big stage, which remained out of his reach for the last two years. So much so, that the clamors for other big line-ups lined up at social media chats, while the formal announcements were barely making it through post-match.

Anthony Joshua finally returns!
Many celebrities and former boxers joined in celebrating the former heavyweight champion’s decisive win. Given that Anthony Joshua might get a chance at world titles in the upcoming year, the triumph has come at the most opportune time.
Jake Paul‘s trainer, and former cruiserweight challenger BJ Flores, mentioned that the sheer strength of ‘AJ’ gave Otto Wallin teething problems.

Queensberry’s Frank Warren, while lauding that the event met everyone’s expectations, mentioned that it was a commanding win from Anthony Joshua. Now the entire heavyweight division appears prepped up for big fights, he emphasized.

Finally, former champion Shawn Porter also said that the British heavyweight appeared exceptional. Especially after watching his performance today, he would rather take his previous word back when he mentioned that the Joshua-Wallin fight should have been the co-main event instead of the Wilder-Parker bout.
AJ looked fantastic, and I’m eating the words I said on this weeks podcast that he should have been the co-main event. Salute AJ

Following his win and Deontay Wilder‘s defeat, the equations have certainly changed as far as title rankings are concerned. Especially now as the second-ranked fighter on the IBF list, he might be able to fight for the belt by the early months of next year.

Chances of the Joshua-Wilder mega-fight
However, the win has also put into question the future of the much-anticipated Joshua-Wilder fight. The upset defeat to Joseph Parker seems to have sparked off rumors of ‘The Bronze Bomber’ contemplating retirement. He is already 38, and despite the two losses to Tyson Fury, he remained at the top of the game for a long time. However, tonight’s loss puts a question mark in front of the American heavyweight’s future. When asked by DAZN’s Chris Mannix about his next move, Wilder said, “We’ll see what happens. We have a little bit more left. I’ve done a great job with managing my money and investing. I’m a happy fighter.”
