Things are starting to once again look good for Anthony Joshua, who has been had been stuck in a rut after suffering 2 consecutive defeats at the hands of Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk. Though his glory from the past when he stood at the top of the division is still far from him. His recent victories against Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius are certainly good indicators for the boxer looking to make a comeback.

Though if not for Dillian Whyte‘s blunder the fight between him and AJ would definitely prove a much more accurate measure of AJ’s standing in the division. But now Joshua is looking at a bout against none other than the infamous heavy hitter of the division- Deontay Wilder. This will undoubtedly be a mammoth task for the boxer, however, boxing promoter Frank Warren doesn’t believe in his chances.

Recently, Boxing Social shared a clip of them taking an interview with promoter Frank Warren. In the video, Frank Warren questioned the significance of Anthony Joshua’s win over Robert Helenius. He questioned if AJ’s performance during that fight was a “legacy performance.” Furthermore, he asserted, “He hasn’t had a legacy performance for his last four or five fights.” According to Warren, Joshua’s victories have lacked the defining quality that marks a legacy.

When asked about a potential legacy-defining victory against Deontay Wilder, Warren dismissed its impact. He stated, “Tyson’s beaten Wilder three times, so if he beats Wilder, if he does, and I don’t think he will – so what?” He further said, “Tyson’s beaten him three times and probably taken a lot of miles off his clock in the fights that he had with Tyson. Tyson did a job on him, especially in that third fight, he had Tyson down as well, it was a tough fight. Wilder didn’t come out of that fight physically well I don’t think so. I wouldn’t read anything from that incident. I don’t think he would beat Wilder by the way. But that’s irrelevant.”

Warren downplayed the idea that defeating Wilder would alter the landscape significantly. He suggested that Tyson Fury had already made a substantial impact on Wilder’s longevity. He also played down the notion that Joshua’s previous fight had any bearing on this potential matchup. It appears that the promoter sees nothing substantial coming out of the upcoming highly anticipated bout.

Recently in an interview with October Red, Malik Scott, Wilder’s trainer addressed AJ’s fight against Helenius. He claimed that the knockout didn’t appear impressive in the least and that he didn’t feel that there is “some trouble coming in January.” He claimed that he believes that the former champion will only last “three or four rounds in the ring with Deontay before he gets knocked out.”

Addressing Joshua’s fighting style he claimed that, “it won’t take him long to catch up to AJ.” Scott made it clear that they will not allow Joshua to take it slow. Rather they plan on bringing the fight to him. He stated, “Deontay is coming to send him to the next dimension. He is not punching at you, he is punching through you.” Furthermore, he addressed AJ’s eye which was left bleeding at the end, and claimed that when ‘the Bronze Bomber’ fought Helenius, he didn’t get injured at all.
