The controversy surrounding Teofimo Lopez and Jamaine Ortiz‘s fight doesn’t seem to show any sign of subsiding. A former world champion believes that justice was not meted out fairly and squarely. For that, he even took the example of a fight that occurred a few months ago to showcase how the judgments came out differently.

By any stretch of the imagination, no one expected the title defense to be a cake walk for Teofimo Lopez. However, no one expected to be a thorn in one’s side either. A well-planned tactic saw Jamaine Ortiz remain elusive for the aggressive Brooklynite. To many eyes, the challenger’s strategy seemingly worked. Lopez appeared frustrated for his inability to meet ‘The Technician’ head-on. But the results left them shocked. Was Jamaine Ortiz penalized for playing out a largely defensive game?

Tim Bradley joined Paulie Malignaggi and others on the podcast ‘ProBox TV’. Right from the word-go, Bradley made it clear how the outcome of the Lopez-Ortiz fight turned out so horrid. He said, “Man, I’m still pi**ed off. I’ve been pi**ed off all weekend long. Serious, you can talk to my colleagues. I’ve been pi**ed off about that decision.” In plain words, according to him, he was conned out of the bout: “Ortiz got robbed highway robbery in Las Vegas.

Then he took up the November 16 fight between Shakur Stevenson and Edwin De Los Santos. The duo fought for the vacant WBC lightweight title. Many panned the match for the abysmal number of punches thrown. Especially Stevenson’s tactic of staying out and constant movement, resulting in a low instance of clash with Los Santos, came under heavy criticism.

Past Echoed, but in New Clothes

So ‘The Desert Storm’ highlighted how, despite fewer connects and fewer punches that landed, ‘Sugar’ Stevenson eventually took home the title. Like Teofimo Lopez in the latest bout, Edwin De Los Santos played out the aggressor’s role in the lightweight fight. “Let me tell you guys something Shakur Stevenson De Santos similar fight less connects less punches landed, and guess who got the decision, Shakur Stevenson,” said ‘The Desert Storm’.

However, the Dominican southpaw kept on missing the target, just like Lopez did. It clearly agitated him. However, when the decision came, it was ‘The Takeover’ who won by a unanimous vote.

Incidentally, the same set of judges who presided over the Stevenson-De Los Santos bout had charge of the Lopez-Ortiz fight as well. “De Santos was coming forward just the way just as well as Lopez was,” he said. “Was missing was frustrated, and he got the decision unanimous decision, so these same three judges scored this fight,” he added further.

According to Tim Bradley, what Jamaine Ortiz did at the Michelob Ultra Arena was nothing short of a boxing clinic. But instead of any appreciation, he lost what was rightfully his in the first place. “It was a boxing lesson, people; that’s what Ortiz put on a brilliant boxing lesson with the strategy, and he didn’t get the credit for it shame shame shame on Vegas judges,” said Bradley.

Clearly, that was an upset ‘Desert Storm’. It’s been nearly eight years since he hung the gloves. His trilogy fights with legend Manny Pacquiao gained widespread acclaim. Post-retirement, Tim Bradley became one of the leading voices in the boxing world. Especially when it comes to analysis and review, fans and followers attentively heeded his words.
