“I just got my hair done two days ago….. I just got my hair done two days ago,” as the lines thumped to the beats, the rhythm flowed smoothly. No, we’re not talking about a Billboard chartbuster. Though it stands a chance if its popularity continues to soar. Even Terence Crawford and Claressa Shields fell under its spell. They could barely restrain themselves from swinging to the peppy tone.

A brainchild of Gervonta Davis, the poetic lyrics didn’t cross his mind during a reflective trance. Rather, they blossomed in the ring. When asked to explain the reasons behind taking a knee, the Baltimorean claimed that a hair product ran into his eyes. His ninth-round move, justification, and most of all, getting away scot-free, have embroiled last Saturday’s PBC-Amazon Prime card in a major controversy. So much so that the New State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) finally had to step in and review the headliner. In the meantime, the thumping bass continues to roar louder and louder.

Terence Crawford and Claressa Shields: Let’s lift our voices and shake a leg!

Why was I bouncing to the beat? 😭😭😭,” responding to a boxing enthusiast’s post, Terence Crawford wrote. Appreciating the bizarre stuff the internet often tosses, the user highlighted how Davis’ post-fight explanation has now transformed into a track, which sounds quite ‘catchy.’ The attached video, a mishmash of clips, begins with Davis ranting out at spectators who booed at him. He said, “I just got my hair done two days ago, and she put grease in my sh*t. When you’re sweating and sh*t like that, the grease came into my face, and it burned my eyes.”

As the public mock increased, he defended himself: “Damn, why y’all booing like I’m saying some bullsh*t? This is real facts. Come on, man, look at my hair. I just got mine done, but it’s all cool, man. You know how they love you and then they hate you.” The track shows no sign of fading, at least not anytime soon. Even Claressa Shields couldn’t restrain herself from commenting as she came across the post. Laughing her wits out, the three-division undisputed champion said, “I agree that the grease burned his eyes, but this a Bop 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣.”

Jokes aside, Crawford and Shields join a string of followers who have criticized the way the Davis-Roach fight concluded. To most, Roach Jr. stood out as the clear winner, as referee Steve Willis didn’t initiate the mandatory count when ‘Tank’ Davis took a knee.

Lamont Roach Jr., the obvious victor

Crawford went a step ahead and called it a ‘robbery.’ To Claressa Shields, “If one judge had Tank 115-113 and the others had it even 114-114, I believe Roach won the fight because that knee he took was 100% a knockdown.

On their part, the WBA defended Steve Willis’ action by releasing an official statement. But Roach Jr. didn’t wait and had a lawyer file an appeal with the NYSAC, which is currently reviewing the fight. Within a few days, fans will get to know whether the record of one of boxing’s biggest icons finally takes a dent or the status quo prevails.
