Gervonta Davis Bids Farewell to Floyd Mayweather After 7 Years

Gervonta Davis will face Rolando Romero in a highly anticipated title defense at the Barclays Center in New York City on May 28. Meanwhile, Davis revealed that this would be his last fight with Mayweather Promotions.
Gervonta Davis was talking on the ‘Last Stand Podcast‘ with host Brian Custer. In conversation, Custer asked him if it was time for him to take control of his career. Moreover, he was also asked if he will be leaving Mayweather Promotions.

Davis responded, “They don’t necessarily have to be about leaving Mayweather Promotions. It’s about just becoming that man, handle your own, your own, you know responsibilities. Your own priorities. So I feel as though, it’s my career, so I feel as though I need to be the one to control my career.”
He also added, “It’s time you know what I mean. Everybody don’t need to you know have them training wheels on them forever. It’s time to you know ride their own bike without training wheels.”
Custer further asked Davis about his thoughts on Mayweather’s response to the same. Moreover, he also gave emphasis on the fact that Mayweather was proud of the fighter that Davis became.
Davis responded by saying, “I’m definitely appreciative that you know what they’ve done for me over the years. And, there’s no love lost.”
He also mentioned that it was just time for him to take up his own reigns.

Gervonta Davis was a part of Mayweather promotions for 7 years.

It was reported that Davis had met Mayweather during Adrien Broner’s training camp in 2015. Moreover, he went on to sign with Mayweather Promotions in the same year.

Davis has had a successful run with Mayweather Promotions. In fact, he won his first title as a part of Mayweather Promotions. He won the IBF super featherweight title in a showdown against Jose Pedraza in 2017. Davis further went on to win world championships in three weight classes.
