Only a day ago when everyone was confident that Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney would now take place without any hurdles, KingRy brought in some last-minute drama to the show. Ahead of the official weigh-ins, it has been learned that Garcia came about 3 lbs heavier for the WBC super light belt held by Haney, prompting wild reactions from the boxing community, including Ry’s former opponent, Gervonta Davis.

Who better to comment on the weight issues of Garcia than ‘Tank’? After all, it was he who demanded a rehydration clause in their fight contract that many believe led to the Garcia losing their April fight, last year. Tank was confident back then that Garcia being bigger than him would be a big disadvantage to him, thus, he insisted on the clause. Now, as Haney might face that disadvantage, Tank had something to say about it.

What does Gervonta Davis mean?

On X, in a deleted post, Tank made an early remark on the weight issues with Ryan Garcia. He wrote, “When I fought him…We made it cool to against him crazy… now everybody writing him off. Clowns!” What Tank means is that since he has already defeated Ryan Garcia previously, a win against him now does not make the victor a better fighter than him since he did it when Ryan Garcia was still an undefeated fighter. And the fact that people are now already writing Garcia off, is a sign that most don’t know enough. However, if one is aware of Tank’s social media skills, he could have meant anything with this rather confusing post. Reporter Michael Benson rooted the post on his X.

Garcia last fought against Oscar Duarte at 143, and it seems like he has been unable to drop to 140 to challenge Haney for the title. While the weight disparity was discovered well before the weigh-in, official reports from the event have since come in.

Will it still be a title clash for Ryan Garcia?

Well, a loud no. At the official weigh-ins that are currently underway in Brooklyn, Garcia jumped onto the weighing scales, with a beer bottle in his hand, without waiting for his opponent. He did indeed weigh in at 143.2 lbs, officially making sure that tomorrow’s fight between Haney and him will not be a title clash.

However, it is also certain that the fight will happen, anyway. Haney had voiced his concerns about Ryan Garcia coming out overweight, well ahead of the matchup. While KingRy in days leading to the fight assured fans on social media that he was on point to make weight. The fighters, thus, made a bet at their pre-fight presser. As per it, if Garcia does not make the weight, he will pay up to $500k for each extra pound that he goes above.

Now, Garcia has confirmed that he has honored the bet and paid $1.5 million to Devin Haney to get the non-title fight rolling. Meanwhile, on social media, the 25-year-old wrote, “Actually 1.5M…I don’t know…3 pounds is nothing stop crying.” Devin Haney, on the other hand, has hit the nail on the head by weighing in an exact 140 lbs.
