Gervonta Davis showcased a spectacular performance against Rolando Romero on May 28, 2022. With the victory, he retained his WBA (Regular) lightweight title. However, Davis was also involved in a minor war of words with Romero’s corner.

Davis faced Romero at the Barclay’s Center in New York Center. While the fighters battled it out, Romero’s trainer Cromwell Gordon was shouting out instructions from the corner.

By the 6th round, Davis was done with Gordon’s incessant shouting. This was when Gordon told Romero, “Box him Rolly, you can outbox Tank.”

An irritated ‘Tank’ shouted back at Romero’s corner. He said, “Shut yo b**ch a*s up.”

In fact, the commentators were taken aback by Davis’s response, even exclaiming that everyone was experiencing a different vibe from him. Additionally, Davis secured his victory in the very same round via a knockout.

The Gervonta Davis vs Rolando Romero bout

Gervonta Davis was initially scheduled to face Rolando Romero at the Staples Center on December 5, 2021.

However, the fight did not materialize. Romero had to withdraw from the fight due to prior issues. Moreover, Davis had to face Isaac Cruz instead, winning the bout by decision.

Davis was later instructed by the WBA to face a mandatory title defense against Romero. The duo faced each other on May 28, where Davis secured his victory by a knockout in the 6th round.

Meanwhile, he got into a gamble with Errol Spence Jr. who was also present at the venue. Spence bet USD 20,000 on Davis while Garcia bet the same amount on Romero.

Nevertheless, Garcia lost the bet with Davis winning the bout.

In fact, Spence later revealed that Garcia has paid him for the gamble.
