Turning professional at age eighteen, Davis debuted against Desi Williams on February 22, 2013. Grabbing his first world title, IBF Super Featherweight, in 2017, he became the WBA (Super) Super Featherweight champion a year later. Eventually, Davis became the WBA (Regular) Lightweight title holder in 2019 and has successfully defended it ever since. Thus, his overall match record remains a perfect twenty-eight victories against nil loss or a draw.
The knockout-to-punch rate is the most exciting aspect of ‘Tank’ Davis’ record. At 93%, hands down, he remains among the top most-ranking hitters of the sport.
Ryan Garcia’s record, stats & height
Los Alamitos-born Ryan Garcia, at the other end, is five feet and ten inches tall. His overall reach is said to be about seventy inches. According to a boxing-social.com, article published on April 4, Garcia’s current weight is around 141.4 lbs.
Garcia was seventeen years old when he turned professional. His debut fight was against Edgar Meza on June 9, 2016. A year later, he won his first title, the vacant WBC-NABF Junior Super Featherweight. In 2018, he added the WBO-NABO Super Featherweight title to his kitty. In 2019, he became the WBC Silver Lightweight title holder after defeating Romero Duno and successfully defended it in 2020 against Francisco Fonseca. Finally, in 2021, a technical knockout victory over Luke Campbell saw him earn his first world title, WBC (Interim) Lightweight.
Like Gervonta Davis, Garcia maintains a perfect record. He is yet to face defeat in his career. Out of the twenty-three wins, nineteen have come through knockouts giving him a knockout-to-win rate of 83%.
Davis-Garcia Press Conference
The New York Press Conference
The two belligerents’ first press conference occurred in New York City on March 8. Reportedly it started a bit late. However, before the fighters turned up, their trainers, Calvin Ford, and Joe Goossen, spoke about their charges. Then Ryan Garcia took the podium and talked about his passion for boxing. Stating that he’s prepared for any odds, he said, “To be a champion, you have to beat the best. It’s not about the titles but about who you beat. I don’t look like I hit hard, but I do hit hard,” as reported by SportingNews. Gervonta Davis, on the other hand, calmly asserted, “He’s getting an ass-whooping. That’s what he’s getting.”
