Gervonta Davis knows how the contemporary world is entrenched in fake news and misinformation. In the latest social media post, the lightweight fighter warned his fans of the “media hype.” His statements come in the wake of reports regarding his return to the boxing ring.
In April this year, the fighter went against Ryan Garcia, a fight he won through an impressive 7th round knockout. Shortly after that, he would find himself embroiled in serious issues pertaining to the 2020 hit-and-run case. Initially, a court ordered him to be placed in house arrest at his coach’s residence. However, reports later emerged that he breached the court’s orders. Based on this, the court ordered him to spend the rest of 44 days of his sentence in custody. After having done that, and taking some time to recuperate, ‘Tank’ is back to making headlines. This time he warns of the insidious nature of ‘headlines’.

Davis knows a thing or two about sensationalized media reporting. In the wake of his Garcia win, Davis was one of the most reported boxers of the year. Moreover, after his jail time elapsed, the fighter made a conscious decision to remain out of the ring for the rest of the year and work on himself. However, will he be entering the ring in early 2024?

Tank to headline PBC?
ESPN Boxing insider, Mike Coppinger has reported that the Baltimore-origin fighter will make his comeback with the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) in March 2024. His fight would also be PBC’s first Amazon Prime Video PPV streaming. No date or venue has been mentioned for the fight but it is rumored that his opponent could be Issac Cruz. Interestingly, both fighters have clashed inside the ring in 2021 wherein Davis defeated Cruz via unanimous decision in defense of his WBA belt.

The fight has heavily come under the scanner as there remains very little interest in a fight between Tank and Pitbull. While the PBC will have to cover the financial burden of the fight, Amazon will be lending its platform, distribution, and marketing. Will the Baltimore native be able to generate the massive numbers that he did for the Garcia fight this time around?
