Boxing legend Ricky Hatton’s son, Campbell Hatton, has earned appraisals from several elites after staging a successful debut in the pro circuit. Meanwhile, Conor Benn also tipped his hat to Hatton and gave him some valuable advice.

Benn, 17-0, is just five years into his professional career and has already alarmed the welterweight division with his prowess. So, he took a note of his fellow Britisher’s debut and revealed what needs to be done to extract a fine prospect from Campbell Hatton. Prior to his fight against Vargas, Benn connected with Sky Sports boxing to hail the youngster.

“What I can say to Campbell is listen, there’s a lot to learn about the pro game, there’s a lot to work on but you can get there. You will reach the end goal if you are willing to dedicate yourself and apply yourself 100 percent to the game,” said Benn.

He added, “Hard work beats talent when talent don’t work hard. I am a strong believer in that but you just gotta deal with the criticism, you have got to build a thick skin.”

Despite having a winning debut, Campbell Hatton might need to prove his worth against a viable opponent. His last rival, Jesus Ruiz, was 0-10 ahead of their fight, so the boxing world may not hold Hatton’s win in such a high regard. Hence, ‘Hurricane’ will have to beat some higher-ranked opponents and sharpen himself to be considered a legitimate player.

What’s next for Campbell Hatton?

According to Box Rec, the young Brit will re-appear in action on first May at the Manchester Arena. However, he is yet to receive his official opponent. While Hatton already seems to have undergone his training, he has an enormous responsibility in advancing his father’s legacy.

It may put some additional pressure over ‘Hurricane’ but with a powerful team behind him, he has begun his career on a high note and will look to continue the trend as he progresses. The entire fight community has already welcomed him to the ride, and Campbell Hatton will be one of the most highly scrutinized names around.

Do you think Campbell Hatton can be as great as his father, Ricky Hatton?
