“Have the Heart and Soul of a Champion”: Stabbed in the Heart, Young Pro Boxer Receives Heart-Warming Messages and Support From Tony Bellew, Rocky Fielding and Anthony Fowler

The boxing community is coming together to wish the son of former professional boxer, Tony Dodson a speedy recovery. Earlier, reports emerged that the lad had sustained severe injuries after he was stabbed in the chest.

21 years-old Anthony Dodson, a rising boxer was found at a junction of Liverpool by cops in the early hours of Wednesday. Reports suggest that a disturbance ensued in The Safe House nightclub leaked onto the streets, wherein Dodson and two others were stabbed. The young fighter sustained a laceration to his chest. The other two were stabbed in the back and head respectively. While cops are yet to make arrests in the matter, names like Tony Bellew and Anthony Fowler expressed prayers for the well-being of Dodson.

While the police department confirmed that Dodson has undergone surgery and remains “critical but stable,” his family informed followers on social media that he was still “very poorly”. However, in a positive outlook, they also noted that he was “on the right track.” Tony Bellew, a former English boxer was one among the first to wish the fighter a speedy recovery. Taking to his X, Bellew shared an image of Dodson. He wrote, “You my little champ have the heart and soul of a champion!…Keep fighting!!”

Joining Bellew was Liverpool fame, Rocky Fielding. Taking to his social media, the British fighter noted, “Can’t believe it. Please pull through this ant. Nicest kid you’ll meet …Come on champ X”

Retired boxer, and a Commonwealth Games bronze medalist, Anthony Fowler also sent his wishes to Dodson. On his X, Fowler wrote, “Everyone praying for you lad.”

Dodson has been surrounded by his family during this difficult time. His aunts have taken to social media to inform his well-wishers of his health status while also critiquing the brutal way the young fighter was assaulted. A relative informed a local news outlet, “Anthony is one of the most kind, lovely lads you ever meet, wouldn’t hurt a fly, do anything for anyone, works very hard trains very hard. I need everyone to pray God.” 

As Dodson continues to fight for his life in the hospital, let’s take a look at who the young fighter is.

Who is Anthony Dodson?

Anthony is the son of former British super middleweight champion (2003), Tony Dodson. While junior Dodson has no recorded professional fights yet, he is known to have won the Merseyside and Cheshire Youth Championship final in 2020. He also made it to the quarter finals of the national championship fighting out of Gemini in Speke.

Earlier, his dad, Tony had revealed that he did not want his son to pursue boxing. He noted, “I don’t really want him to but he’s gifted, like I was. So hopefully he can continue, progress, although I’d like him to give up the boxing gloves and get the football boots out.”

Anthony Dodson remains in critical care. The incident has yet again raised questions about the crime rate that’s been amok in the country. While more updates on his health are expected shortly, we would like to wish the rising boxer a speedy recovery.
