Just a day ago, the sight of a wheel-chair bound Gervonta Davis at the Super Bowl threw a spanner on this year’s big fight. However, fans heaved a sigh of relief upon coming across a subsequent video of ‘The Tank’ twisting and moving untroubled. With precisely two months left, excitement and doubt seem to be moving alongside each other. After all, along with a few others, it is one of the year’s most significant fights. Given their stature and the fan following, it might even be the ‘Fight of the Year’!
Deep within, every supporter doesn’t want this fight to meet a similar fate that many other highly-anticipated battles faced. But those apprehensions haven’t been able to subdue the ramblings on the possible winner characteristically. Talks, discussions, personal opinions, and trolls are replete with who is a better fighter and has a better chance of winning.

Running back, the NFL legend chooses Ryan Garcia over Gervonta Davis
On their part, journalists and reporters make it a point to check the views of the rich and the famous. No exceptions were made for the celebrities at the recently held ‘Shaq’s Fun House’ in Phoenix, Arizona. The hip-hop and electric dance music (EDM) festival took place last weekend. One of the luminaries to walk in was former NFL running back LeSean McCoy.
The thirty-four-year-old football player was active from the time he got drafted in 2009 till his retirement in 2021. Post a five-season stint at Philadelphia Eagles; he joined Buffalo Bills for three. During the following two years, he played with Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers for one season each. Incidentally, both teams would turn out to win the Super Bowl of that season.

So at the event, McCoy stopped by for a few questions. After checking with the former on a few UFC line-ups, the reporter asked him for a pick between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis. Without batting an eyelid, the former running back replied, Ryan Garcia. Then the reporter wanted to know why he would be putting his money on ‘KingRy’ when the popular opinion is tilted towards the Baltimorean.

McCoy replied, “First of all, have you ever seen Tank? Tank’s real small, small arms. Ryan is tall, long arms, power, speed, and who’s Tank fought?” The reporter threw names of a few exceptional hitters, such as Isaac ‘The Pitbull’ Cruz and Leo ‘The Earthquake’ Santa Cruz. And pat came the former footballer’s response, “We didn’t even know who Pitbull Cruz was. Right, who else?”
He disagreed when the reporter persisted on Le Santa Cruz’s name. Then he gave away his reasoning to back the Californian, “He got to fight somebody with power. Tank takes a lot of hits, and then eventually, he knocks him out; when you find somebody with power, you gonna move a lot you’ll move a lot.”
Give the Californian a chance!
It seems he’s not alone. The former two-division world champion from Mexico, Oscar Valdez, while talking to Fight Club TV, said, “I’ve seen (Garcia) in the gym; he’s not just that pretty boy that everybody thinks he is. I got Ryan. He’s fast, but also he’s got power in his shots. I can see the power in his shots. I can see Tank winning too, but I’m leaning towards Ryan.”
The former Super Featherweight lost a fight for the first time to Shakur Stevenson last year. He confirmed his understanding and said that April’s contest would undoubtedly end with a knockout. While admitting ‘The Tank’s’ power, he mentioned that ‘KingRy’ is adept in handling a southpaw. Moreover, the former enjoys the reach advantage.
Unhappy with the overall trend where Davis is given the upper hand, he said, “They‘re not giving Ryan credit. I feel like they’re looking at him as an influencer, as a TikToker, as a YouTuber. He’s legit. Ryan can hit; Ryan’s fast, so I’m leaning a little bit more to Ryan.”

Whatever the outcome, it is one of the fights fans and followers longed for. The twenty-eight-year-old Baltimorean has time and again proven his strength inside the ring. While ‘KingRy’ enjoys an unblemished record like his East-Coast rival, one factor which time and again crops is that he, by and large, remains untested against solid fighters.

More so, a knockout-to-win rate of 83% trails ‘The Tank’s’ formidable 93%. Perhaps there never has been a more open bout. Do you agree with McCoy’s views? Do share your thoughts and opinions with us in the comments below.
