With each day passing by, it is being fortified that a clash between the titans, Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev will indeed take its course. Doubling down on these expectations, Bivol spilled some major beans in his latest appearance on Matchroom Boxing’s Podcast.

Earlier this month, Beterbiev registered his 20th knockout victory in his 20-fight record against Callum Smith. The victory strengthened his hold in the light-heavy division, making him a fighter that cannot be shunned. On the other hand, in December, Bivol marked his return to the ring after the WBC sanctioned Russian fighters from entering the ring in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. After defeating Lyndon Arthur in the Riyadh fight, Bivol resumed his crusade in the sport. His next potential target, he claims, will be his “hardest test” yet.

Appearing on the Flash Knockdown’s 4th season, a flagship spearheaded by Eddie Hearn’s promotion company, the Russian fighter kept it real on a potential fight with the knockout machine, Beterbiev.  He was asked if he thought Beterbiev would be a harder fight for him than his former opponent, Canelo Álvarez.

Bivol explained, “To be honest I believe it’s my hardest test. He’s physically stronger than Canelo Álvarez and he has good technique too.” Why does he think Beterbiev would fare better than Alvarez? Bivol happens to be the second opponent to have given the Mexican fighter, Canelo, a loss. In 2022, he defeated Canelo via a unanimous decision after the latter had moved up the weights for this clash. Dmitry Bivol vs. Artur Beterbiev is a fight that many anticipate, including Beterbiev himself. However, the strides in making it happen are prolonged.

Right after he had shown Callum Smith the face of the canvas, Beterbiev voiced his yearning to emerge undisputed in his weight class. While he already holds the IBF, WBO, and WBC titles, to make his dream come true, he needs the WBA title as well. Interestingly, the title is currently held by his Russian counterpart. To SkySports Beterbiev noted“Yes, Yes. I want this fight. I want this fight a couple of years, since a couple of years, you know.” Does the undefeated Bivol also chase this fight? Beterbiev responds, “But he says always, last four years. He always says, next fight he will with me. But never do.”

Bob Arum, his promoter, explained it further. “It’s not done yet,” he said in the ring after the fight. “But absolutely we want to do it. I’ll be talking to my friend His Excellency Turki Alalshikh. I know he wants to do it, but Ramadan is coming. So, about three months after the end of Ramadan, we’ll be ready to fight Dmitry Bivol, probably in Riyadh,” he told DAZN.
