For the month of December last year, Floyd Mayweather Jr. grabbed headlines primarily for personal reasons. But, by and large, the year kept him busy with three exhibition fights.

With the New Year onsetting, the former five-division champion would resume a hectic schedule that will take him across the globe. Reportedly, his first pit stop would be the United Kingdom. Speculations were rife regarding the fight date and, of course, the contender’s name.

Daniel “Keemstar” Keem and Yousef “Fousey” Erakat established Happy Punch Promotions in 2021. It aims to provide fans and viewers with world-class news and updates from combat sports.

And Floyd Mayweather Jr. would be facing-off…

When he was active, “The Money” fought off boxers of high calibers, such as Manny Pacquiao, Ricky Hatton, and Canelo Alvarez, to name a few. However, since his retirement, he has competed in exhibition matches against MMA fighters, YouTube personalities, and not-so-known boxers worldwide.

So when @HappyPunch shared that “The Money,” would fight Muay Thai fighter Liam “The Hitman” Harrison on February 25, alert fans quickly took to Twitter.

Leeds native Liam “The Hitman” Harrison is a thirty-seven-year-old Muay Thai specialist.  His kickboxing record states that he participated in roughly 117 fights. Out of which, he won ninety, fifty of which were knockouts, and lost twenty-five.

It stunned quite a few; many wanted the former champion to pick someone else.

Fans reacted to the February fight news

@weturethra seemed happy and expressed that Floyd Mayweather Jr. should return to active boxing instead.

@Elchapo996 seems to disagree. In his opinion, “The Money” should retire for good.

@VelanQBAT lamented that the former boxing champion would face off against a fighter who lost his last fight!

As it appears, Liam Harrison, on August 27, last year, lost a fight against another Muay Thai fighter, Nong-O Gaiyanghadao, in Singapore.

So, @VelanQBAT questioned how the One Championship chairman Chatri Trisiripisal, or more popularly, Yodchatri Sityodtong gave the go-ahead to the fight.

@advenum_ mentioned not knowing Mayweather Jr’s new opponent but presumes he is quite popular.

@Toxicbehaviour4 highlighted the business end of the event and explained that the date, February 25, would be demanding in terms of balancing viewership and PPV sales.

@DrewFirstBlood1’s message was unclear, whether the pun was intended when he asked, “Vs who?”

@CFCT_ opinionated the Mayweather Jr. should have picked another YouTuber, Ali Loui Al-Fakhri, who also goes by the name AnEson Gibb.

Some time ago, Floyd Mayweather Jr. told The Telegraph“A bout is planned in the UK for 2023. In February, we’re looking forward to coming here and putting on an exhibition for the fans in the UK…so hopefully in February, I’ll come over and do an exhibition if it’s possible.”

Fans and viewers genuinely hope his upcoming fights remain exciting, even if they are exhibitions. But, more significantly, for most, it’s an opportunity to catch a glimpse of one the greatest boxers in history.
