Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are set to engage in a historic showdown for the undisputed Heavyweight championship of the world on February 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as announced by organizers. This eagerly anticipated clash brings together two formidable fighters in a quest to determine the undisputed champion. In September, contracts were officially signed for a proposed December 23 date for the much-anticipated clash.

However, this anticipated date was never officially confirmed and faced a delay, particularly in the aftermath of Fury’s closely contested non-title bout against former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia on October 28. Recently, Johnny Nelson has shed some light on the tentative dates for the Fury-Usyk fight.

British boxing sensation opens up on Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk

In an interview with Pro Boxing Fans, Johnny Nelson spoke about how he always believed Fury-Usyk would be getting postponed. Moreover, he also stated that there could also be a chance that Fury may take some more time before he steps inside the ring with the Ukrainian boxer. So, Nelson is a bit restless even about the new date of this marquee fight.

He said, “Let’s just wait and see. Because I want to- I just need to see what excuse would he use for it not happening. He should’ve boxed December 23rd, now he’s moved the date. I heard it were a few conditions to that happening, if the fight didn’t happen on 23rd, Tyson Fury all of sudden decides, now I’m done with it.”  Furthermore, he continued, “If he’s not right, he’ll get to know where he’ll struggle to live with losing to a middleweight.

So, it’s still yet to be seen whether Nelson’s predictions would prove to be right or not. Moreover, he has even agreed to what Carl Froch has said in the past.

Carl Froch has shared his thoughts about the February 17 date

Carl Froch, expressing skepticism about the February 17 date for the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk showdown, believes that the ‘Gypsy King’ may require additional time to prepare for the bout. On his YouTube channel, Froch commented on Fury’s current physical condition, stating, “He’s got a bit of timber on him, a bit of derby that he needs to reign in before the fight.”

Froch raised concerns about Fury’s ability to fully enjoy Christmas and New Year, suggesting that rigorous training over the festive period would be necessary to meet the February event deadline. He stated, “I’m not so sure, I’ve got a feeling that fight might get pushed back until March. You heard it here first.
