Gervonta Davis will meet Ryan Garcia on 15th April, hopefully in Las Vegas, Nevada. Both the pugilists consider themselves the rightful heir to the Lightweight legacy. It is a fight everyone wants to see. However, the war is laden with a fair share of distractions outside the ring. Gervonta’s tweet on arc rival Garcia filling himself with banned performance-enhancing drugs is the latest to join the march.

The Lightweight to Middleweight divisions are exploding with outstanding talents often missed in the somber heavyweight divisions. Exciting lineups and big money will bring the fans to the edge of their seats.

Taking to Twitter, The Tank bawled out at Ryan for employing performance-enhancing drugs. Now taken off, the deleted posts included his incriminations against streaming service DAZN and Matchroom Sport boss Eddie Hearn for not dousing a menace of such degree.

Since Gervonta has built up a reputation for deleting a tweet once posted, a few eagle-eyed fans managed to take screenshots that are now doing the rounds.

A fan wanted to know whether The Tank believed that Ryan was ‘on the juice.’ Gervonta immediately shot back, “He never looked that big before. “he definitely on something…shid DAZN already proved they don’t [give a fuck] about testing.”

Adding further, he stated that he had pressed for testing Garcia and himself through Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA). However, the move collapsed in the event of both the boxers getting ready for makeshift bouts before their big showdown.

Alluding to the suspended bout between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn, Davis exclaimed why the promoter Eddie Hearn didn’t take any timely action. Scheduled on 8th October, the match between British boxers Eubanks Jr. and Benn was called off after reports that Benn had used the banned substance ‘clomifene’ surfaced.

Chuckling over the latest episode of tele-novella, Ryan laughed off the accusations. However, he also mentioned not receiving any requests for VADA tests from Gervonta’s end.

Fans and boxing lovers are keeping their fingers crossed. They don’t want the latest gig escalating into a legal entanglement preventing the two from fighting.

For a reason, British journalist Pierce Egan coined the term ‘sweet science’ for boxing. An avid spectator of bare-knuckle boxing in the nineteenth century, he witnessed a glaring transformation in boxers. Unrestrained aggression and assaultiveness became things of the past. Instead, a composed fighter who bought time and employed tactics and superior training mattered. It may be time modern-day boxers turn the pages backward and begin afresh.

Being sure of oneself outside the ring counts equally. Taunts and banter, as long as it helps bring out the controlled aggression of the boxers, are acceptable. But left unrestrained, it risks turning into melodramatic accusations.
