Jamaine Ortiz lost the fight. But he remains convinced that he is the actual winner. Ask him—he followed the playbook and managed to frustrate Teofimo Lopez. But in the end, the decision did not turn out in his favor. Seemingly, even ‘The Takeover’ hadn’t expected such an outcome. Is that why he experienced a surge of emotions when the results were declared?

‘The Technician’ perhaps believes so. According to him, deep inside, Lopez knew that he hadn’t done much to secure his belts. The Worcester, Massachusetts-born boxer still appears aghast at the 117-111 scorecard. The closely contested fight must have sown the seeds of doubt in ‘The Takeover’s mind as well. Probably that explains his most unusual post-fight reaction.

When the Wail of Tears ‘Takeover’: Jamaine Ortiz

What did you make about uh Teo’s post-fight interaction with?” asked the FightHype reporter who met Jamaine Ortiz. But he later checked whether the boxer had rewatched their fight or not. More so, what were his thoughts on the light welterweight champion’s emotional state, especially when he couldn’t control himself the moment it was announced that he had won the fight?

With well first of all, did you see the fight? Did you rewatch here? Yeah, okay, what do you think about his reaction afterwards when he was announced to win? You know, he went into tears. What do you think that said?” The reporter checked.

‘The Technician’ replied that though he saw a picture of Teofimo Lopez crying, he hadn’t seen any videos capturing those particular cuts. He said, “I didn’t see that. I didn’t see that. Oh, I seen the picture like of him um crying afterwards. I didn’t see no video. I didn’t watch that part of the fight.” However, he knows that, in his heart of hearts, the Brooklynite understands that he lost the bout. Jamaine Ortiz heard from someone how Lopez had been kissing his belts before the final announcement about the winner came.

Ortiz said, “But I just feel like he knew he lost. He knew he lost. I think they was telling me he was kissing the belts before the fights before the fight was announced, whoever they announced the winner.” Moreover, why should Lopez be happy? Ortiz asked. Usually, on such occasions, everyone tends to get excited. In ‘The Takeover’s case, he was reportedly doing even backflips. But ultimately, in the end, he ended up crying since he knew that he was just lucky. He won despite losing the battle, ‘The Technician’ emphasized.

He cried. Why wouldn’t he be happy? Usually when you do a great performance, when you know you won, you’re happy, you’re excited. He’s doing back flips, but he he’s he’s crying, yeah, cuz he knew he lost and he got a gift,” Jamaine Ortiz said.

Teofimo Lopez might have his own version of the story. However, it’s high time, and both boxers need to move on. Earlier during the interview, Jamaine Ortiz stated that he’s quite comfortable fighting in 140 pounds. Hence, fans could expect another big fight sometime in the future.
