Seventy-one-year-old Frank Warren is still going strong. The veteran promoter remains one of the most dominant voices in British boxing. Probably the most prominent member of his stable, Tyson Fury, will fight Francis Ngannou in October. The hype around the fight will witness a surge as the date nears. Hence, for the time being, back home, Warren’s public disagreement with former champion Carl Froch is keeping many fans and followers on tenterhooks. The latest round finds the Queensbury boss denouncing ‘The Cobra’ for his envious disposition.

Roughly a week ago, the verbal clash between Frank Warren and Carl Froch almost reached a tipping point. So, during an interview, the former mentioned how ‘The Cobra’ appeared disinterested when he was trying to get him into a match with Joe Calzaghe. To which Froch returned with an explanation that he held the mandatory position in the WBC. Calzaghe was the reigning champion. However, the Welshman moved out instead of facing off with the Briton.

The Frank Warren and Carl Froch slanging match

In a talkSPORT interview, host Sam Matterface asked him to clear the air over the controversy. Carl Froch replied, “That’s just slander on my name. I’m a guy [who] who’s got a reputation for fighting anyone, anybody in the division. I’ve thought the best of the best. I fought for Joe Calzaghe’s title when he waited until the final…

In response, Warren denied that Froch was never a mandatory fighter. Calling the former champion a liar, the veteran promoter challenged him to bring a suit against him.

So now, speaking to businessman Simon Jordan on his podcast, ‘Up Front with Simon Jordan, ‘ Frank Warren repeated that Carl Froch never wanted to fight Joe Calzaghe. Then he added that the boxer has always resented other fighters and has never had anything better to say about them. Citing an instance, he said, “…he was so jealous of Amir Khan.

Then he went down memory lane, telling how once he (Froch) fought in Nottingham, barely three to four thousand people attended the venue. But the whole place sold out when Amir Khan visited.

Something for everyone…

There’s no doubt that, in his time, ‘The Cobra’ was peerless. However, he has, in the past, called out other boxers. A few months ago, he contested Anthony Joshua’s legacy. Likewise, he has questioned even Tyson Fury. He lambasted Jake Paul when the Nate Diaz fight was announced. It remains to be seen when the public spat between the boxer and the promoter gets over. Whatever was said and done, the boxing lovers suffered the loss, as a fight between Jose Calzaghe and Carl Froch could have been a historical one.
