“Helped Me Overcome…”: Years After Considering Taking His Own Life, Jake Paul Confesses How Boxing Gave Him Ability to Reflect on Himself

Jake Paul started his career by making videos on YouTube. At that time, he was following his brother Logan Paul‘s footsteps, however, there was a huge impact of his brother’s fame on his channel. So, when Logan Paul took up the boxing challenge against KSI back in 2018, Jake Paul also found his boxing bug during that time. His fight against a fellow Youtuber, AnEsonGib, had him hooked on the sport and he instantly knew that this was where he’d make his own identity.

Before joining the sport, there were things that weren’t going great for Jake Paul, as he admitted to being suicidal in the past. But, the sweet science has helped him find his true self over time, and he’s talked in much detail in recent appearances on his podcast. You’d be surprised how ‘The Problem Child’ became more spiritual after choosing to be a fighter.

Jake Paul found healing through the sport of boxing

In the recent episode of Full Send Podcast, the co-host, Steiny, observed that Jake Paul has changed a lot as a person over these years. He seems more mature and well-composed than he was before. Jake Paul agreed to this speculation and detailed the reason for the hosts of the show. He said, “I think mainly because I got to take time for myself through these boxing camps.

He talked about how, when he was purely involved in the entertainment world, it was quite easy to get swayed by the wrong people. On the other hand, since he started boxing, his perspective on life entirely changed. And his love for boxing has been quite evident in past occasions. Anyway, he revealed, “Boxing gave me the ability to reflect on myself and to build a future. And that helped me mature and through boxing, I found breath work because, for these fights and every day for training, I had to meditate and be really focused.

He also said, “I recommend meditation and breathwork to anybody. But that really helped me and it helped me overcome a lot of personal s**t like trauma.” Well, Paul has experienced his lows during his time as a YouTuber and has talked about it extensively in the past as well.

Jake Paul shared his traumatic past

During the time when Paul was preparing for his fight against the former UFC fighter, Tyron Woodley, he came on In-Depth with Graham Bensinger. In that interview, Paul revealed how he went through a hard time when Logan Paul was getting backlash from everywhere because of his ‘suicide forest’ video.

He said, “Every brand I was affiliated with dropped me, I wasn’t even the one who filmed the video. It was just by way of association because my brother filmed in the suicide forest.” Well, he lost some million dollars deal and he couldn’t cope with that very well. He continued, “I’m sitting there at 21, I lose basically all my income because of something my brother did, I am blacklisted. Everything in my life was falling apart. Dark thoughts come into your head of like ‘I don’t wanna be here on earth anymore.’

Then he found his space in the world of boxing, and that’s when he could drag himself out of the dark realm. As of now, Jake Paul seems to be much more collected and accepting towards himself, and hopefully, he’ll keep on providing the world with bigger fights in the coming years.
