David Benavidez‘s father recently announced that Benavidez was looking forward to moving up in weight and fighting the likes of Zurdo Ramirez, Dmitry Bivol, and Artur Beterbiev. On the other hand, Oscar De La Hoya asked the media to push for a fight between Canelo Alvarez and the current WBC Silver Super-Middleweight champion.
At this, given the current circumstances, although it seems David Benavidez and Canelo Alvarez are moving on, boxing fans are still eager to know if there is a chance of the two ever sharing the ring. On that note, former two-time Heavyweight champion, Hasim Rahman recently answered whether or not Canelo and Benavidez will fight.

Win, lose, or draw with David Benavidez doesn’t harm the legacy of Canelo Alvarez
In his recent interview with FightHype, Hasim Rahman explained why Canelo Alvarez is not in a hurry to fight David Benavidez in the ring. According to Rahman, since Alvarez has already ensured his place in the Boxing Hall of Fame, the Undisputed Super-Middleweight champion can afford to not fight ‘Red Flag’. Likewise, although Rahman feels Benavidez requires a fighter with Canelo’s resume for glory, he believes Alvarez will avoid the young bull. “I doubt if that would happen. Seriously doubt that would happen,” began Rahman.
“I just don’t think Canelo want the smoke with a young bull. I wouldn’t say he’s old but his age is relative. When you’re in your 30s and you got somebody in their 20s,” continued the former unified Heavyweight champion of the world. “He got a Hall-of-Fame career already. And Benavidez is still up and coming even though he is the two-time WBC champ. He still got some things to do,” Rahman added.
“Canelo is already a hall of famer. So, win, lose, or draw, he’s gonna be Canelo. It really ain’t going to do too much either way for Canelo. So, that’s why I don’t know if Canelo is in a hurry to fight him,” concluded Hasim. So, if not Benavidez, who will Alvarez fight in 2024?

Alvarez’s next potential fight
Yesterday after Jaime Munguia defeated John Ryder to defend his WBC Silver Super-Middleweight title, Munguia said it would be an honor if Canelo fought him. As a result during the post-fight presser, Oscar De La Hoya announced that Munguia vs. Canelo Alvarez is “the fight to make“. According to De La Hoya, now that Munguia has stopped Ryder in the fashion Alvarez could not, Jaime has earned his shot against Canelo. Likewise, De La Hoya hoped Munguia and Alvarez would share the ring in September.

Given the interest shown by De La Hoya and Munguia, it is likely that Canelo would face Jaime since the risk is low against the 27-year-old. Anyway, do you also feel that a fight with Benavidez will not impact Alvarez’s career? In your opinion, should Canelo take the fight against Munguia? let us know in the comments below.
