Unlike his brother, Jermell Charlo doesn’t hold the undefeated record, but he can still claim to have beaten every fighter he’s ever fought. The first loss of his career was handed over to him by Tony Harrison in 2018, but he avenged himself in the rematch a year later. Then, his bout with Brian Castano was a draw in 2021. He cleared every dilemma imposed on his prowess after the 10th-round KO victory in their rematch in 2022. This bout made him the Undisputed Champion in the Junior Middleweight division.

So, Charlo has faced every obstacle in his path and this could prove quite beneficial in his upcoming fight against Canelo Alvarez on September 30. This fight is highly anticipated, as it will either prove Charlo’s inveterate urge to win, or it will shut all the mouths talking about Alvarez’s age. Recently, a famous boxing trainer has acknowledged the behavioral advantage of Jermell Charlo.

In a conversation with Shawn Porter on The Porter Way Podcast, Deontay Wilder‘s trainer, Malik Scott, talked about his outlook on the fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo. For a lot of people, Charlo is an underdog in this fight, but Scott believes that his stubborn attitude may get him the win he wants. Scott said, “When the going gets tough, and the tough get going, [Jermell Charlo] always get tougher to me.

He stated that he had never seen Charlo get squeezed under pressure. So it’s definitely going to be a new experience for Charlo. Notably, Alvarez is in a different league altogether than Harrison and Castano. Furthermore, Scott enunciated, “But I think he could pass the test with flying colors, I truly truly do. As stubborn as he comes across outside the ring, I believe his genius is all inside the ring.” Much recently, he even called out Terence Crawford before his fight against Alvarez.

Although, Scott stated that this fight will make Charlo see something entirely new in his career, at the same time ‘Iron Man’ believes he’ll also deliver something that Canelo Alvarez would never expect stepping on the canvas. He announced in their first press conference that he’ll make Alvarez realize why Charlo is a different fighter.

On August 15, the fighters, Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo had their first press conference. They spoke about their game plan for this bout. Charlo warned ‘Cinnamon’ to not take him lightly, as he’s not “just a little Charlo“, instead he called himself “the big Charlo“.

Additionally, he said, “Canelo will see that I pack a good punching power. I got good lateral movement, good abilities to move around the ring.” He clearly declared that it would not be an easy fight for him. Alvarez would have a tough time trying to put him down.

If he actually trains hard enough to substantiate all these claims, then it won’t be a stretch to say that Alvarez might be facing the toughest opponent of his career yet. What are your thoughts about this fight? Let us know in the comments section.
