Canelo Alvarez’s second attempt at fighting in the light heavyweight division did not turn out as expected. After conquering the super middleweight division, Alvarez challenged the light heavyweight champion, Dmitry Bivol, at 175. The fight was a disappointment, as Alvarez got outboxed by Bivol in the 12-round fight. Notably, before this, Alvarez had challenged Sergey Kovalev in the same weight class. But apparently, it wasn’t enough experience to face Bivol.

The only other loss that Canelo Alvarez has faced came from Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather almost a decade ago. Before embarking on his fight with Jermell Charlo, Canelo had decided to take on Bivol in a rematch. However, Bivol refused to accept the fight at 175. Now, more than a year later, Alvarez has confessed his true feelings about his fight with Bivol.

Canelo has recently come forward to talk about the bad decision of taking a fight against Dmitry Bivol. It’s been 16 months since the loss, and he’s already fought and won against Gennady Golovkin and John Ryder. But the undisputed super middleweight champion is still finding it difficult to cope with the loss.

According to Fox Deportes, Alvarez recently confessed to being deeply affected by the loss. He said in translation, “That fight hurt me, it touched me very deeply because I should not have lost because I am a much better fighter than him. The truth is that I should not have fought.

But now, the fighter is trying to move on to bigger things in his career. He is preparing for the initial fight of his three-match agreement with the PBC, expected to bring in a reported $100 million.

Back in June, Canelo joined hands with Al Haymon‘s PBC after leaving Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing. Now he is getting ready to take on the super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo. The fight is highly anticipated, and this deal promises even greater fights ahead.

After his fight with Charlo, the Mexican boxer, may also face David Benavidez as part of the deal. There are also rumors of Canelo facing Terence Crawford. But the deal will only be deemed profitable if Alvarez wins the three fights. If he loses to Charlo, it’d be difficult to draw audiences to his next two fights according to the contract.
