Fighting is a serious business. However, it becomes pertinent to let off the steam, pent-up anger, and frustrations. Comic relief might be a great boon for the event. Jermell Charlo and Canelo Alvarez will enter the ring the day after tomorrow at opposite corners. The battle for Super Middleweight supremacy has all the ingredients to make it a char-bursting potboiler. Understandably, both boxers and their team members are on edge. But for whatever reason and all the tense moments, the fight’s press conferences have remarkably avoided the usual trash talk and sneers. No wonder lighthearted moments from the final press conference became a cause for celebration.
Leonard Ellerbe has been keenly following the fight. During interactions with the media, he has often shared his valuable input on the fight’s outcome. He has also spoken about how each boxer stands out. A delightful exchange between Alvarez and Charlo at the venue caught his attention early today, and he wasted no time sharing it with his followers.

Jermell Charlo vs. Canelo Alvarez: a joyful back-and-forth
So, toward the end, both boxers were answering some serious questions. Turning towards Charlo, Brian Custer asked, “If you would, Jermell, I’ll start with you for all of these people who’ve assembled here, all the people coming to this fight watching all over the world. You tell us, why do they need to tune into Showtime Pay-per-view on Saturday night and why Jermell Charlo’s going to win that fight?”
The ‘Iron Man’ replied thoughtfully, “Because I’m ready for whatever. I’m a mo********er lion lion, I’m a lion.” But by the time he closed, there was a broad smile on his face, much to everyone’s amusement. Then, it was Alvarez’s turn to answer. Custer said he was now about to enter the ring with a lion. Hence, he needed to convince the viewers to watch the fight on Showtime pay-per-view. Also, he needed to share why, in the end, he would prevail over the American champion.
The undisputed Super Middleweight champion replied, “I just… just tune in because it’s [going to] be a great fight, and I don’t know what animal I need to say to beat that lion, but whatever, I’am that animal, just tune in [to] the fight. September 30 is [going to] be it’s [going to] be it’s [going to] be good, believe me.” And the response soon had everyone at the venue bursting into laughter.
Leonard Ellerbe joins the entertaining banter
Showtime Boxing had shared the rib-tickling discussion through its X account. And Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe wouldn’t miss it for the world. Tagging the Showtime post, he said, “Canelo is funny as hell without trying to be funny. I can’t wait!”

Recently, while talking about the fight, Ellerbe, like many, opined that given his performance during the last few battles, Canelo Alvarez may no longer be the fighter he used to be. However, when asked for the approach Charlo needs to adapt to deal with the brilliant Mexican tactician, Ellerbe responded that Alvarez enjoys an outstanding defensive system and counter-punching. Hence, the recourse for Jermell Charlo will be to set himself up quickly without giving his opponent any time to settle into his game plan.
