Errol Spence Jr. seems to have landed the knock-down shot. At least for now! But the bout’s not happening in a ring. It’s rather a slanging match, and it’s unfolding in the vast social media arena. Why? It seems like a user tried baiting the former world champion as the news of his cataract surgery seeped in.

Early today, news came that Errol Spence Jr. had to undergo surgery to remove a cataract from one of his eyes. Per his version, it was long-delayed. However, it seems he stated what might be the reason for his receiving so many shots in the last fight. He suffered a career-first loss to Terence Crawford on July 29 last year. Though he has triggered the rematch clause, Spence Jr. has yet to make a return to the ring. However, using the statement, when a user playfully threw a jab in the conversation, Spence Jr. swiftly countered with one, or rather, as it appears, a few of his own.

So it all started when @SaycheeseDGTL shared an update on Errol Spence’s cataract surgery. They said, “Errol Spence Jr. reveals that he had cataract surgery on his eye, which he says was overdue: “Why you think I got hit with so many jabs n hooks.

However, a user disagreed with the bit of news. Lamenting the reason Spence Jr. cited for receiving so many hits, they posited that Crawford should receive due credit for being the better boxer. ‘Bud’ simply outboxed and outclassed the New York-born Southpaw. “He just way better than u one tricky pony, @ErrolSpenceJr,” said the user.

It seems like ‘The Truth’ did have a few ‘tricks’ up his sleeves. He checked the user, citing his Olympic participation first. Then he shared how his children could attend private schools. He also listed how his parents could enjoy a happy retired life, cruising through exotic locales across the globe. Lastly, he pointed out the importance of accumulating enough fortune to last more than a lifetime. Thus, whatever the user pointed out as a ‘trick’ ultimately proved to be the one that brought him fame and wealth.

The former welterweight champion said, “You might b right but one trick got Olympics: kids in private school, mom & pops retired yrs ago, passport full of stamps, & I don’t have to pick up a glove again if I don’t want to...

In a subsequent post, though sounding dismissive about retirement, Errol Spence Jr. acknowledged getting beaten by Crawford. Then he lightly highlighted not living the ideal lifestyle of a boxer. Perhaps he alluded to his preparation for the fight not having been sufficient?

Finally, he closed by highlighting how comebacks during the twilight years of one’s career could pose serious challenges. That too, only to find themselves earning a much smaller percentage of what they used to earn earlier. He said, “Some y’all forget what this shit really for until you 37 trying make a comeback for 10% of what you use to make ..

By December, fans started sharing sightings of Errol Spence Jr. outside. Then the former champion also shared clips and pictures of vacations spent with his family. Details of the rematch with ‘Bud’ still remain unclear. More so, one big question remains. If at all it takes place, will it occur at 147 pounds, as it did originally, or will it move up to 154 pounds? Opinions, though, vary across the board. Only time will tell whether Spence Jr. will be able to turn the tables once he meets Terence Crawford again in the ring.
