On January 21, the tables turned at the AO Arena in Manchester. Liam Smith stopped Chris Eubank Jr. in the fourth round. Beyond doubt, it called for a rematch. Initially scheduled for June 21, the contest was postponed to July 1. Then, a second reschedule took it to September 2 because of Smith’s injuries. Their press conference couldn’t have been more intense, with Smith questioning his opponent’s brains. Now, as it turns out, he has posers for the latter’s decision over trainers as well.

With barely a few weeks left for the fight, Eubank Jr. sent shock waves as he roped in Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre as the new trainer, breaking up with legend Roy Jones Jr. ‘BoMac’ as many fans might be aware, has received widespread acknowledgment and accolades as the trainer of undisputed champion Terence Crawford. So, how does Liam Smith feel about the ‘Next Gen’s’ decision to work with a high-profile coach?

Eubank Jr. decides: Liam Smith doesn’t give a damn!

Incidentally, Michelle Joy Phelps asked him, “What do you make of him changing his trainer mid-camp, leaving Roy Jones Jr., and teaming up with Terence Crawford’s trainer, BoMac?” “I don’t really care,” – replied Liam Smith. He claimed he knew the nitty-gritty and explained that Brian McIntyre was here to strike it rich. Money was the main reason why Roy Jones Jr. left, Smith said.

It seems Liam Smith retains doubts over Eubank Jr. learning something different from McIntyre in four weeks. He said, “…he didn’t part ways with Roy Jones because he felt really Jones was not the right the right, you know, the right thing for him. What can Bomac teach him in four weeks? Like to be realistic, you know, I don’t care how good the coach that he might be a good coach, he might not be. He might just be blessed with Terence Crawford; we don’t know.”

Finally, he said he would not lose sleep over the matter, even if Chris Eubank Jr. had the mighty Terence Crawford by his side in the match. Chris Eubank Jr. entered the bout in January unbeaten since 2019. However, the tough Liverpudlian proved too much for boxing legend Chris Eubank’s son. Given that the match is now just a few hours away, whether ‘Next Gen’ finally redeems himself under new guidance remains to be seen.
